I recently went to my doctor for AC1 test and other blood work.
y AC1 was great..went from 6.1 to 5.6
But I am worried about the other test. They said that my GFR (Glomerular Filtration Ratio was low…Are these test accurate?
They sent me for a Renal Ultra sound and I see a specialist on October 18.
Is there something I should be doing, not doing? I have read several articles and they all say I am in stage 4 and should be on Dialysis. Could the tests be wrong..I am really scared

I went through adrenal failure which caused my kidneys to shut down
cause was my metformin, after doctors me off from it I bounced back, I was just hours away from Dialysis when test numbers started improving, Old-n-Grey

thank you for you responds. I was on metformin and was taken off recently.
Doctor mention that that could have caused some of my kidney problems

Howdy Velane
I also have Chronic Kidney Disease. I have had it since my kidneys shut down in Nov 2006 and was once on dialysis for 10 months. Fortunately my kidneys got better and started working well enough again that I could discontinue treatment. I am also in stage 4. Dialysis is not absolutely necessary until you enter stage 5 (called End Stage Renal Disease —— ESRD) Here is a link to a document you may or may not have seen but I have found to be very valuable:\

and here is a library of information from American Association of Kidney Patients as it relates to diabetes:

I pray this is some help to you

Thanks James. How did your kidneys start functioning again?
I don't understand, how they can be fine and then the eGFR drops..
Last time I had eGFR done it was in the it is in the twenties.
What kind of treatment is normal?

I really do not know the hows and whys of my kidneys being restored to enough health I could discontinue dialysis for those 4 years. I do know that I wasn't restored to level 1, I probably went to a low level 2 or a higher level 3. And to be quite honest, once I was with Jem, I didn't pay close attention to my GFRs. We did them fairly regularly for both of us (she was CKD also).

But when we were together I was eating and drinking things which were not so great for kidney health. Only after Jem passed, and I noted my GFRs dropped and my creatine (sp?) sky rocketed did I get serious about maintaining my kidney function. So far I have extended it for about 1 year.

Not sure I understand your question: "What kind of treatment is normal?".

A drop in GFR could be results of a number of stressors on your nephrons' ability to filter waste from you blood. High BG levels where you spill glucose into your urine can be hard on your filters. So can continued HBP. I'd have to research to find more stressors, and I will have to do that tomorrow. I need to go to bed soon.

I pray this will do for now Velaine.
