Type 2, BS Levels

what should your BS go up to after you eat a good meal? I watch everything i eat and still have BS go to 170- 197 after a meal, would this be normal? I am doing my best not to have to take metformin again.

in a normal person, BG floats in a range from 85 -95 or so and after a meal will hit 125 for a brief period until the body starts to use the sugar and brings it back to the regular range. When I was first diagnosed I was hitting 160 -180 about 2 hrs after eating but after 5 months on a pretty strict low carb diet I am now close to the normal range with an A1c of 5.3. But that's with Metformin 500 2x a day. I tried going without it and it started back up again. I think if you can get it low and keep it low for several months things might get to where you don't need the meds but I'd be careful High BG is the cause of a lot of things that are subtle but very bad.

It would number one depend on what your number was before yoou ate, secondly what you ate and third how long you wait to check after you eat. I wait 2 hours anything under 140 at this point is normal. if you check 1 hour after you eat you can expect your number to be higher

remember it is 2 hours after your first bite that you test. doing it earlier will show a higher number. not sure what the ranges are for high. I was told it should be under 150 ( for 1st ad 2nd wekk on meds) and 120-130 after that. I am on metformin 500 2x's a day. good luck

Check out my post in my name under,diet & nutrition. Its about eating vegan but you have to read & research it.Im doing so good on it.Losing weight ,feeling good & bloodsugars low,,decrease my insulin a lot! some days I dont need it!You have to commit yourself to eating better.I just ask myself"what do I want? To eat crappy & be sick or to eat vegan & feel great. Just in case you cant find my post look up 2 sites & books 1- fork over knives 2- engine 2 diet GOOD LUCK[I lost 20 lbs in 30 days!!

you do not have to go to such extremes to feel good and have good numbers. i limint my dait intake to 1500 calories maxium and no more than 80gm of carbs a day which is way under what the ADA says you may have. i lose 2-3 pounds a week of course i walk at a 4-5 mph pace three times a week and bike three days a week weather providing. i have lost a total of 50 pounds since i was diagnosed and i did not have to go vegan

what's been interesting for me is that I started following the Protein Power plan, kept the carbs low and ate more meat. Lost the 30 lbs and my BG is close to normal as are my triglycerides (which had been very high) technically I'm no longer diabetic according to the numbers, but those are in part due to the meds so I'm cautious. It is quite a shock to eat fattier foods and lose weight and drop in the LDL etc. HDL went up. Been about 5 months now.
