For years I wake up in the middle of the night, back of my neck soaking wet and burning up. It feels like im going to spontaneously combust. I feel very hot and have been that way for over 13yrs.
In the winter I have to have a fan or a/c on, all year round. In the summer it gets quite uncomfortable.
Any idea why I stay so hot and sweat at night, every night.

I subscribe to several health letters and in particular, Dr David Brownstein…in one of his reports he has linked 59 diseases (including diabetes) to thyroid issues. My newest doctor dismissed my TSH test as okay…but in reality, didn't request complete testing. The result was 1.4 on a scale of .4-4.0. I'm planning on visiting a new doctor very soon…I have a friend who is a cert. nutritionist who was instrumental in putting me on a natural thyroid support supplement which enabled me to lose 60 lbs and reduce the constant heat. Unfortunately, he retired and I have been unable to find a similar product, hence the "new doctor" who is the only alternative medicine specialist in south Florida. I'm "hot" again, and now T2…need to address all of this so that I can be a happy girl again! Stay tuned.

You should go and get a second opinion, this could be serious, my sister has thyroid trouble, so she has to take meds for her trigylicorides, not sure on the spelling though, lol.

Don't give up on the Dr and the Thyroid thoughts, I was that way untill they gave in and sent me to an Endrocrinologst in Seattle. Immediatly started test, blood work, scopes, even to biopsy. Ka-ching, found out, took care and now I'm cool…temperature wise. Actually have to make use of the quilt with our crazy weather…
Not sure can I invite you to be a friend?
Good Luck radicating the heater…
Cheerio, Kricket.

Oh my gravy! My dr. told me it was because I was pre-menopausal but I have been that way for years. My poor husband has to sleep with a heavy comforter because I am always roasting. hmmm. Now I am going to mention that it is happening to other people including men! Thanks for sharing!

I had been hot for a lot of years. I would sweat easily and would often go without a coat in a Nw Ohio winter. I would crawl under the covers and warm up the bed for the mother of my sons, and then when she came to bed it was warm for her. Then I would sleep on top of the covers even in the winter time, with just gym shorts on, otherwise I got too hot. Even in the winter.

Now in the past 5 years it has changed for me. Now I need to crawl under the comforter. If the temp is under 75 to 80 I get the shivers. I have to wear sweat shirts and sweat pants to bed, and then a hooded sweatshirt on top of that. I have to keep the hood up or a stocking hat on, and then I crawl under 2 blankets and a comforter, and still sometimes I shiver for a while. I have heard that it is a sign of hypo active thyroid.

Maybe you ought to have your thyroid levels checked for signs of hyperactivity.

Omgosh I'm the same way. Before being diagnosed I just thought it was pre-menopause. The sweating kind of went away after I started on Metformin but now it's back and it's miserable. I don't know what else to do but keep a fan on me at night. Is that something we should talk to our Dr's about?

sweetj 2011-10-15 22:06:48 -0500 Report

I can relate to the nightsweats and the hot flashes too, I thought only females go through this and then it was because of menopause. I have talked with my Dr and say my thyroid was fine, but the seats are unbearable at times. Some times I feel like I am losing my breath and have to stand in front of the fan to get extrabairbin my lungs.

I seem to sweat all the time. I have type II and on two pills a day. I have my fan on or windows open all the time, while my daughter is cold with the heater on… I even have a fan on in my office with the window open. Thank god I have a office… Everyone else is cold.

High blood pressure? High BS? I get night sweats too but I'm a woman and always thought it was just hormones. I suppose your hormones could be off too. There is a thing called the liver dump where a lot of insulin goes into your system in the middle of the night and makes your morning numbers high. It could be that too. I've taken to sleeping with the A/C on year round.

I haven't had that problem yet, knock on wood. I do have a problem with my bs dropping at night so I have to eat me a little bowl of ice cream or something sweet like graham crackers and milk.

i worked 8 hours today and by the time i got home i just put a movie in and took a nap,it was hurting and throbbing so bad. i think i may call it an early nite tonite man im in bad pain.

You definitely have to get that checked out for sure, one thing about being a diabetic is losing my feet, I won't never be able to handle that, I try so hard to take care of my feet.

DARRELL EDGELL 2011-10-16 09:56:26 -0500 Report

yea buddy me too. i take good care of my feet. last nite befor bed it looked as though on the side of my foot, on top. the veins looked purplish and the veins looked raised, thats where it hurts so bad. yes i am going to make a doc appt.

I know it will be hard on us all to have to keep running to the doctor every time something is wrong but our lives depend on it, good luck man.

sweetj 2011-10-15 22:11:21 -0500 Report

Darrell I pray that you will feel better soon and if not then please dont hesitate to see a dr even if you have to go to the emergency room. Our feet are VERY PRECIOUS. I pray for you tonight right now. Take care
