Do you think eating fast is part of being a diabetic, or is that just me? Maybe I am enjoying my food too much or something. I just want to ask though.

No the speed of eating has nothing to do with it. Its what you eat! Bad food is bad food eaten slowly or fast!

We too were brought up on a farm where eating fast was the normal, especially breakfast and lunch, dinner too at planting and harvest times. I don't know if that has anything to do with diabetes or not but it has been shown to be a factor in being over weight as when we eat fast our bodies don't have time to tell us we are full until after we have already overeaten. Being over-weight or obese does raise our chances of being diabetics so there may be some link to diabetes and rapid eating.

Leaving it to the experts and they will tell us everything we do is going to give us one disease or other. IMHO Oh, right, they already have! rotflmao

Over the years I have learned to slow my eating down, partially because of having my children and having to help feed them as I was eating once they got to being able to sit at the table with the family. Today, I do like to take my time eating and enjoy the food fully - this exasperates my husband sometimes though as he is a very rapid eater. He says he had to learn to eat fast of not get enough as he was the youngest of 5 boys.

Howdy Carrie!

No, I don't think that eating fast is a part of being a Person With diabetes. I had a habit of eating fast from growing up on a farm where I ate fast because we wanted to get back into the fields and get our work done. I know it is not very healthy to do that, but it seems to be ingrained in me.

I have a friend "Cid" with whom I eat out from time to time. He is the pokiest eater I have yet seen. And he is a PWD too. He comes from an Italian family where meals were long drawn out affairs and every bite was savored, and there was a lot of talking and family time around the dinner table.

I think that eating fast or slow has more to do with the way one was brought up than anything else.
