Your list is extensive. Yes watch out on the carbs for corn is considered a starch per se. So depends on how you make your shepherds pie. Mine has creamstyle corn with the mashed potatoes. So I save that for a special time and watch my carbs during the day. So I plan ahead. You ever make Indian Corn Stew? Its good loaded with veggies. If you want the recipe let me know ok? Hugs

Great list! Yumm!! I have one of my own also. I try to make a different ethnic dish each day to mix things up.

My family likes a White Lasagna, You use the lasagna noodles that cook in the pan instead of boiling them first. You layer a noodle then ricotta & mozzarela mixture using 6 noodles ending w/a noodle on top. Then pour in milk about 1/2 way up the pan. Cover & bake @ 400 d til all the milk is absorbed & the noodles are cooked, approx 45 mins. Then if desired top w/more mozz cheese. Melt cheese under broiler. Serve with a variety of sauces. Being single when I make this lasagna I make it in a loaf pan. If making it in a regular lasagna pan use your own # of layers to the top of your pan, probably 3-4 layers.

We also like to have grilled Provolone or Mozz cheese then dip in Tomato Sauce instead of tomato soup.

We like to put Cinnamon chips in our pancakes. Hershey makes them. You can find them w/ the choc chips.

Funny, I just noticed I went dinner to b'fast instead of b'fast to dinner. But I often have b'fast foods for dinner as well.

All this talk of food is making me hungry. Guess I'll go make dinner now.;}

Were you really, really bored this morning???!! :)
These ideas are really great, tho-very cool! Are some of the recipes on DC for inquiring minds?

Grin - The list was actually accumulated over a long period of time in a computer list that I had saved. I sometimes use the list to get recipes for certain things by going to various cooking websites like,, and general search engine searches. There are times when working on a shopping list that I just stare at a blank sheet of paper because I don't know what sounds good. I'm sure you can find some recipes here on DC. I can't say that all of the listed items are my own. Various people contributed to the list over time.

from some of the entries I would guess that this was compiled before you were a person with diabetes?

I'm used to the red sauce lasagna but yours sounds great I'll try it soon. Oh, by the way, it is good to have scramlled eggs, sausage and homefries for dinner. Thanks,Pete

lol…I was thinking the same jayabee52 or RAYT721 was just missing all that great food listed here…I have found that I have become very pre-occupied with food these days.. really.. because i have to change the way I eat and plan my meals I have never been so pre- occupied and been so focused on shopping ever..the supermarket and the market are now a major productions for me.. I make a note of the things I have to buy and am especially attentive to the veggies section and fruits…which is good!!

RAYT721 2011-10-03 17:06:18 -0500 Report

Um, er, yes … while that's true I am finding that words like "low carb" or "diabetic friendly" in a search can prove to find healthier alternatives. Also I find that I am able to substitute ingredients on my own to lower calories, fat, sodium, etc. - As I stated I find the list very helpful in the "what's for dinner?" menu planning process.

Yes, I know, I was just checking to see if my deduction was accurate. It is quite a list! Good to see you around!
