My Dr changed me from taking my Lantus from night to morning. I am up to 70 units and then I usually take 10 units of Humalog in the morning meal, 15 units at lunch, and 20 units at supper. My sugar is still running in the 200's in the morning. When I was taking Lantus at night it would hold me through the night and my readings were always 150 or below but my A1C would still be 8.4. Any suggestions on how to correct this?

I am not counting carbs yet, I also was changed from pm to am because of morning lows. When I took my sugar in the morning, when I was on pm, it was always 150 or below but then my A1C is always high. I was using the sliding scale but I guess it wasn't holding me. I am a Disabled vet so I go to a VA Doc instead of an endo. Maybe I should see an endo on the side. Sometimes it's really hard to get ahold of the VA Doc. I would really like to try the pump but VA hasn't caught up with the times as of yet. My nephew just got his and he loves it and he is a type1. Thanks for the input, it was helpful and a blessing. God bless you both.

perhaps it would be very useful for you to count your carbs and write a food log of what you ate, when you ate it and what your BG was 2 hrs after your meal. You may find that VERY enlightening.

My endo had also changed my Lantus (when I was on MDI) from bedtime to morning but she did it because I was experiencing severe morning lows. The change of time really helped me. (It helped, but I started on a pump in mid-August.) Are you on a sliding scale of Humalog and counting your carbs at every meal? If not, you might want to ask your doctor about doing so. Counting carbs is a pain in the butt, but a very necessary part of managing your diabetes and getting better control. I found that by lowering my carb intake to 120 grams or less per day, I get better BG numbers.

I take my Lantus in the morning, and have novolog for coverage throught the day,I am ok in the morning until I have my coffee, then for some reason my sugar goes up even if I drink it black, so for some reason the coffee bothers me,but the lantus in the am ,with metformin, brings it down slowly, diet coke does not bother me,so its kinda a wierd about the hot caffien, but I also eat my carbs at lunch, and watch them at dinner, and snack on veggies or nuts during the day
