wonderful walnuts in my oatmeal at 7
first fist-full of almonds with banana around 10
salty sunflower seeds suffuse lunch’s wrap at 1
more almighty almonds with dried mango at 3
perhaps pistachios arriving home at 5
or curry cashews for cocktail hour
and walk the wild side with wasabi almonds in dinner’s salad

I love my nuts!

They are a great snack anytime. I use to buy the can ones with salt but I got to where they were too salty so now I get the raw ones.

I love all kinds of nuts too!!! I'm just allergic to alot of them. My husband is the bigest nut I love, sometimes I itch when he's around, maybe he's one of the nut's I'm allergic to.

I love them! I just ate two handfuls of sunflower seeds, and a handful of mixed nuts, cashews, almonds and a couple of brazil nuts. I feel full enough and don't want anything else until lunch. We have to watch the fat and calories though. i love putting sunflower seeds on my salads. I like sliced almonds, the thin ones, in my recipes when it calls for it.

nuts have helped me (and whole grains) keep my weight off for over 2 1/2 years now, I have not gained one pound back, but of course I exercise 30 mins a day everyday too.

I sprinkle roasted sunflower seeds on my salads or in my sugar-free puddings. I love the cinnamon coated and cocoa coated almonds. Emerald sells them sweetened with sucralose rather than sugar. They're good just as is or sometimes, I chop them up and add them to 1/2 cup of sugar-free vanilla ice cream. I also like roasted walnuts and pecans and hazelnuts. And Peanut Butter is one of my food staples…Smucker's Natural, of course. I'm nuts about nuts!

OK, once I dragged my brain outta the gutter from reading the discussion title (very eye catching, by the way!) I started thinking about eating more of the nuts you mentioned.
I had been snacking on them and stopped, but need to start again, as they are very filling. I can't eat alot of the foods you eat them with, but maybe with dried fruit for snacks would be good.
Thanks for bringing this up, and putting it back into my brain to purchase when I go grocery shopping today!

I had to pull my brain outta the gutter before I responded. But you are right Grannie, it was VERY eye catching. Very humorous though. Very humorous.

I have been eating almonds every day in my oatmeal and just by the handfuls, also adding cinnamon and flax seed to oatmeal and still had to start taking medication for high cholesterol.

I am going to have to get some of this flax seed. I suppose you can only get it at a health food store? I have not been able to find it in regular stores.

I buy it at the local Kroger store here. They have also had it at Big Lots lately. Look for it in the isle with flour and meal.

dietcherry
dietcherry 2011-09-30 11:28:43 -0500 Report

HaHa I knew youd ask! 23 almonds is a 1 ounce serving and equal to 4 fat exchanges on the Diabetic Exchange List. If you google Fitting 23 Almonds Into Your Diet Plan, it will give you a more thorough breakdown! :)

Ah, thank you. You're such a wealth of good detail! I've done much of this by feel. As for nuts, being a skinny guy, I use them to keep from losing weight with my ultra lean diet. For me, no quantity of them appears to affect BS, but animal saturated fat spikes me through the roof. Goofy , huh?
