Forgive me for asking a fairly unintelligent answer but, are there other methods of using to test blood sugar levels without pricking your finger? I read an article recently that Apple was inventing an APP for your Iphone to test your blood sugar levels. At first I thought, how could they do this without injecting something into your body but, then when I followed up on the technology, I realized that all it was is that you put your testing strip into this device that attaches to the phone in order to upload and manage your levels over time. But, I'm wondering if anyone knows if there is anything else out there.

Look forward to your responses! Thanks in advance!

Howdy Kelly! WELCOME to DC!

First off Kelly the ONLY unintelligent question here on DC is an honest question which has NOT been asked!

There has been discussion on DC in the past about non-invasive BG monitoring. That's been the "holy grail" of monitor researchers for quite some time now. And they're working on it. But I haven't heard that all the kinks are worked out of it yet. Here's a news article on it: http://www.diabeticconnect.com/news-articles/... and a discussion on it: http://www.diabeticconnect.com/discussions/10...

I remember not long after I started on DC, posting a news article about some kinda "Flash Gordon-y" kind of monitoring of BGs through the use of contact lenses or tattoo appliques and several other rather futuristic ways of doing it. (can't find that just yet)

I never heard of a phone that tracks your sugar. Not yet at least. But there are methods that you can use to test in your arm instead of your finger. It does hurt much less. Just ask your doctor about getting a new testing device like that and your insurance should pick it up as long as you have not gotten one in the past year.
