Wow what an accomplishment! It's not the sugar that matters but the carbs. I'd make an appointment with a Registered Dietitian who works with diabetes to help you set up an individualized plan for what to eat. Keep up the good work!

Hi and congratulations on your super achievement. Sugar may not be your problem. Diabetics are told to watch their carbohydrate intake. Complex carbos are good for you (fruit and veggies) the other carbs are not (chips, cookies, snacks, you know, all the stuff we love). Since you seem to be new to diabetes I would ask my doctor to turn me onto a nutrionist who can set up an eating program letting you know how many calories, carbs, fat etc. you should be having at each meal. One secret is to keep your carbs around the same amount of carbs at each meal. This prevents the real high and real lows of your blood sugars. Example: I am 241 pounds and here is my deal: breakfast, 45 carbs, snack 15 carbs, lunch 45 carbs, dinner 45 carbs, snack 15 carbs. This works out to be about 1500 caalories a day. I hope that this has been helpful. Good luck on your continued success.

Howdy Miss, WELCOME to DC!
If you are type 1, you are undoubtedly taking insulin to manage your BG numbers.

Has your Dr confirmed you are type 1, or are you taking for granted that you're type 1 since you're on insulin? That is a common misconception. Usually type 1s are not that large.

Be that as it may, congratulations on your weight loss. How has your numbers been running?

Blessings to you and yours

Ten miles a day? Wow!! That ain't no joke. Congratulations. One thing I do is try and eat 5 carbs a day. N have an appointment with a Nuetritionist, that's the key. He or she can educate you what foods to eat and what not to eat, how much and how many times. You would be surprised at the many names sugar has. You would be amazed at the many foods sugar is in. I didn't know there was sugar in milk, in corn. Education and in information is the key to management and control. Keep up the good work.
