I lean to the ACE blood sugar numbers, but to the ADA for the blood pressure, because the ACE bp numbers put systolic/diastolic numbers closer together. I understand from an EMT friend (actually, my SIL) ACE is not the more optimal situation, i.e. my understanding is farther apart is better. For example: the ADA's recommended 130/80 has a separation in numbers of 50, and the ACE's recommended 130/85 only has a separation of 45. ;-) Mara

For the most part the limits look OK, although ACE is significantly lower for blood sugars. But the blood pressure recommendations looks a little high. I thought the goal was 120/70, not 130/80-85. At the drug store monitor, I think this is listed as borderline hypertension.

My bp is almost always 110/70, which my Dr tells me is excellent. Once when it was 119/72, I was concerned, but he described those numbers as excellent, as well.

Actually, I don't think it is anything I'm doing. My bp has been that consistently since I first became aware of my blood pressure number when I was pregnant with my first child 50 years ago. I believe I was just blessed with good bp. ;-) Mara

Well, you are very lucky. Many of us need to keep an eye on our BP and/or take medications to keep it in an acceptable range. One thing, before I retired, my job was pretty stressful, so I would go to work early so that at least I would miss the morning rush hour traffic. Since I had a little extra time, I would sit in my car at work and do things to try and bring my pulse and BP down. Once I got my pulse down to something like 55 and my BP to 85/50. It kind of scared me, so I quite trying to bring it down (at least like that).

Yes, I read, and my Endocrinologist mentioned when ACE got a bit strickter in their preferences. Would be nice if ADA & ACE agreed, as it seems a bit confusing for us PWD.

Flipmom I follow my doctors advice and that of the nurse that conducted the diabetes education class I attended. She is sanctioned by ADA. But I am going to click that link and check out ACE.

You are most welcome Flipmom. Less then a month after I learned how and when to eat at that class I became insulin free. I was taking 40 units a day.

Thank you. I could not believe it to go from morning bg of 140 after meals bg around 180 to 200 to on target. I see the doc tomorrow think I will be dropping another pill. :)

Thank you so much. If someone had told me that I could get so excited over one little pill I would have laughed at them. That leaves only 2 more glyburide and 6 metformin, I will win.

Never knew there were different guidelines. Looking at the two, my endo has me following the ACE guidelines.
