I found out I have pregnancy diabetes. Tuesday I have a doctor's appointment about it. Have no idea what to expect other than to prick my fingers 4 times a day, and to cut out the sugar.I will find out the new diet and what fruiits I cannot eat. Thankfully they make sure they don't give me any shots that will harm the baby. I was wondering if that means I will have a big baby? My mom had gestationial diabetes when she was pregnant with me and had a 6 pound baby. My mother in law as well, she had a 6 pound baby with pregnancy diabetes. My mom said her pregnancy diebetes went away after she deliverd me. My mother in law on the other hand, it stuck with her. I do not know what to do other than just to do what the doctor says and to walk allot.

I have had type 1 diabetes for several years and I too am pregnant so my situation is slightly different than having gestational diabetes, but if your doctor hasn't already referred you to a high risk pregnancy doctor I would suggest that you see one or at least one that specializes in diabetic pregnancies. They are very helpful in balancing the needs of both your diabetes and your pregnancy.

Hi. Hopefully the diabetes will go away after your delivery. Sometimes as you mentioned it does go away for pregnancy diabetes. Remember to watch your carb intake. Carbs can raise your sugar as fast as eating sweets! Good luck to you and I pray you have a healthy baby and an easy delivery! God bless!

Pregomama, why would you not be able to eat fruit? Most diabetics are encouraged to eat fruit as part of their meal carbs. My youngest weighed 10 lbs and I was not diabetic at that time. Genetics helps to determin the size of the baby. Patiently wait until Tuesday. Sugar persay is not an enemy but you will need to watch how much you consume and decide if you want healthy carbs or unhealthy ones.

The mother of my 3 sons got gestational diabetes for each of her pregnancies. She returned to "normal" once they were delivered. She has remained so up until now

Oldest is 29 youngest is 22. Her mother was also a type 2, so we were afraid she'd also We stopped at 3 since we were afraid another pregnancy would push her over the edge.

I had gestational diabetes when i was pregnant with my 1st baby. She was delivered at 37 weeks because an ultrasound showed that she was going to be big. I had to give myself insulin shots for 11 weeks. I delivered a healthy baby girl in feb 1998 weighing 9 lbs 5 oz. She did have to spend about 8 hours in the neonatal intensive care because my sugar was high, she had low blood sugar. My diabetes went away after the birth but returned in jan 2010. I am now type 2 diabetic. When are you due? Good luck with everything. God bless :)

Do you feel better about having to deal with Gestational Diabetes after seeing the doctor? You will do great. Its hard at first but the outcome is the best. Good luck with the baby and everything. Always here to talk to :)

I was a little nervous at the doctor's appointment. It was allot to take in at first. They taught me how to prick my finger and where to write it down. They said to take fruit after 12 noon. To limit the bread intake. If I eat it, to eat it with a meat or peanut butter. I am glad I was not the only one there. I had no clue you could drink slim fast optima during pregnancy? They said it's like ensure, just less expensive. I thought buy the name of it that we would have to stay away from it. It was funny because the diet candies are worse and I should avoid those. I thought it was hilarious that at the check in desk had a bowl of candy. They said if people have low blood sugar, then they can have a piece of candy. They let us know to watch out for hypoglocemia, and hyperglocemia.
