This morning I actually tracked my blood sugar, took it every 1/2 hour and noted it on This morning it started out at 252, eat a packet of oatmeal w/1 tablespoon of cinnamon. It spiked an hour after I ate it. It went up 44 points. Is this an acceptable spike. Will it spike an hour after every meal.

Besther, I am no expert but what I learned in class and on here a 44 point raise is not bad if you have a good fasting reading. Your fasting was dangerous to begin with at 252 then you added another 44 on that to make it 296? That is definately something to be concerned about. You did not state what type of diabetes, when diagnosed or if you are on medications for it. With those numbers I feel you need medical attention soon.
Good luck,

Hey Mary, thanks for your concern!!!! I am type 2. I was diagnosed 2 years ago. I was put on metformin and advanda, hated the way it made me feel. I got off of that and tried an all natural medicine, which worked for a while, then it stopped working. I wasn't on anything for about 6 months. On Sept 6 I went to an endo and my bs was 365. He put me on a new medicine call Tradjenta, which seems to be working. I have always eaten healthy, lots of chicken breast, salmon, tuna, eggs, and veggies, milk and cheese. I just started tracking what I eat and what it does to my bs levels. I know that a cup of milk spikes it like 100 points. So, no milk for me!! Or very little of it anyways. I exercise 5 days a week, with NO weight loss. Totally frustrating!!!! My doctor had me do an ultrasound to see if I had problems with my thyroid. I go Oct. 10 to get the results.
Any help that you could give would be greatly appreciated!!!

Besther, thanks for the reply. Have you had a dietician draw up a meal plan for you? I got a meal plan at a diabetes education class. Less then a month later I became insulin free and dropped one of my glyburide since. I thought I was eating healthy too. This class helped me so much and when I followed their plan I started losing wight too without exercise. It sounds like you are doing a lot of right things. You can learn a lot here but I really recommend a class to help you learn. I have some learning disabilities and need visuals along with written. Good luck and hope you can control the beast soon.
