I was diagnosed four weeks from yesterday with DKA which most of you know is Diabetic Ketoacidosis. I am a 13 year old type 1 diabetic now. it was hard for my family to adjust to but as we all worked together and had great support members we have made it this far without having to many troubles! I was wondering if any of you diabetics had any advice for me and family as far as coping with the fact and having diabetes especially because there is no diabetes in my family.

To our new young friend welcome. I am type 2 which is so different then 1. I wish you the best of luck and keep coming back. There are a lot of 1's here that really know their stuff.
God bless you and your family,

Yes Annon, start slow with your learning about diabetes. This disease is like a marathon race. Don't try to run it like a sprint or you'll burn yourselves out and that would not be good.

With the right information you CAN live a LONG AND HEALTHY LIFE

Please check out this discussion: http://www.diabeticconnect.com/discussions/12... for confirmation of this fact.

Please keep returning to DC and asking questions as they come up for you. I have learned more in the nearly 3 years I've been on DC than the 13 previous since my Dx.

Praying God's richest blessings shower upon you and yours
