I read and spoke to the physicans that would do the weight loss surgery, and yes I thought it would answer the problems I had too. But, still continued to ask questions, is this the answer for over weight people with type 2 diabetes. Just think No more diabetes, high bp., and the weight would also be gone too and biggest thing was less medicine. Could it be true!!!! Never again have to take medicine for these health issues. SLOW DOWN… You still have a chance upon diabetes, high blood pressure returning and being right back in the same boat? Yes if it is in the genes and family inherited then there is a greater chance of it returning in later years. Check things out and ask lots of questions before you have the surgery.

I have a friend who had this surgery done. For the most part, all she can eat is pureed foods now. She had complications that she will have to deal with the rest of her life.

I have had the gastric bypass in 2005 and have done great. I can tolerate pretty much any food except I get sick with ice cream, food made with sugar and I do not tolerate alot of milk. My diet must be low carbohydrate. I am sorry to hear about your friend, I hope she gets better.

Thanks, I have been giving her recipes for smoothies and things she can make that are soft, non-fibrous. I don't think she has tried them yet though.

Howdy Cynthia!
I urge people not to be too hasty in getting the surgery. After all you can't un-break an egg! If you can possibly lose the weight on your own without surgery or other gimmicks.

Blessings to you and yours

James

I agree for people not to be too hasty, yet I was so obese and with my depression I had been on so many diets having lose weight and gaining it back and then some. This surgery was more of a tool to help me to lose my weight yet I still must maintain a healthy lifestyle and watch what I eat to maintain a healthy weight. By the way my doctor was wanting to start me on insulin prior to the surgery. I have lost 120 pounds, went from a size 28 to a size 14 jeans. I now am off all my diabetic medications and maintain my blood sugar with diet and exercise. This surgery is not a cure all but a tool to assist the person.

But is there a family history of diabetes or high blood pressure? Do you or your Doctors think these illnesses might return cause of your genes and /or family history?

they are definitely in my genes, but as long as I exercise and eat right I should be alright. When these illnesses are in your family history, it only means that you have a predisposition to them. Because hypertension and diabetes are on both sides of my family history and I will always monitor for them.

I'm sincerely glad it worked for you! I know of a couple of friends in the real world who had the surgery done and who is gaining the pounds back. I pray you can maintain that for as long as possible.

again this surgery is only a tool, you are the one who has to work to keep it off. It does not magically disappear. Even having the surgery you have to still change your lifestyle to make it work.

Shoulders, I have heard many stories that weight loss surgery affects the immune system and many people have a lot of complications soon. I have not researched this. I am glad that you are thinking this over before jumping in. Good luck with your decision.
