Many 4 letter words that are used today are very negative and or offensive. I can think of 2 of those bad words right now. Take snow for those of us that live in areas where we have a definate winter season snow can be a very bad word. Slippery roads, cold, wet, aching muscles from trying to keep our sidewalks clear, slipping on that snow and breaking bones. On the other hand snow can be beautiful like on Christmas morning it is awesome to look out the window see a fresh blanket of snow on the tree branches and on the ground. Driving through a desert area with 100+ degree temperatures and looking at the snow covered mountains in the distance makes you feel a bit cooler. Now for that other 4 letter word that I hate it is DIET! As a kid I was not fat but my mother put me on every fad diet there was. Grapefruit and hard boiled eggs, whoever dreamed of that one? Another one of the olden days was the pre-digested liquid protein diet..ugh. There were others and each was as bad as the other. To me diet brings up pictures in my mind of starvation, constant hunger and headaches. Even typing that word has me shaking in my flip flops.
Yes I am a diabetic and I will never diet again as long as I live. I go by food plans or meal plans. A plan is something that you make. If you are making it you are also making your own choices. Now that feels good to me I can decide what and when I will eat. I can also decide to use the guidelines I learned in my diabetes class to help me to make healthy decissions. By following my food plan, making good decissions, finally getting control of my blood sugars I feel good about myself. If you too feel negative about that word try terms that make you feel better.

I studiously avoid writing that 4-letter word for eating plan.

I have another 4-letter word that I try to avoid: MOVE. I have done that so much throughout my adult life, I really hate moving from place to place.

I agree with the move thing-we moved 27 times in 20 years-I still have that wanderlust but just bought a house. Not sure if I like the idea of growing roots! What am I gonna do now??
