I can remember having our first cat in th eapartment shortly after we moved in. We did not tell anyone we had this cat in fear of losing our agreement. Her name was Samantha, a beautiful long haired light colored furry friend. Always loved to sit on your lap at nite, be next to you on the bad, would look at you with those big eyes. That was the start of many cats later, along with 2 dogs in our family's lives. We now have 3 cats that are all feral types but love to be with us day or nite! They seem to have their own personalities, habits, ways of showing they love you! How about you folks? Grandpa Bill

I have a Bichon Mini Poodle mix named Frankie. I adopted him from a rescue league. I couldn't imagine not having him with me. He has his own personality and is VERY protective of his family. He loves to cuddle and sleep on my bed. The good thing is that he doesn't shed. He likes to go on walks with me (or at least I think he does). Pets are great.

I have my cats and won't say how many but under 10 LOL…they were abused ferals that then were victims of a wild dog pack attack Most of these were babies at the time. Three were brought over by Momma only days before she and Daddy Kat were killed by the dogs. One is the twin of Momma and you would think they were her own…one half blind with her Momma..one a hurricane survivor and…mmmmm I just bought a condo and have to hide mine. They are afraid anyway and hide but to think I own this and still have to deal stinks… Thanks to those owners who no doubt caused this to be the case. When you come through the gates there is a huge sign warning you NO ANIMALS…if you are visiting and have one you are not allowed in… Mine mind their business, do not go outside…I own this…so unfair but they will have to go through me to get to these babies. Sweeter and loving babes you won't find. All they want is safety, love and a full tummy.

We have 16 cats!! LOL no they are not all the house we have a huge fenced in lot with a walkway from the lot to a house that they can go in. In the house is Raisin a hymlian cat, Fiesty the newest one I raised from a bottle the day she was born and she was 4 months old on September 4th, Hope is in the house he is a beautiful big black cat with one white patch on his stomach and one white patch under his chin, and then we have Monster a beautiful gold and white tabby, out in the lot is Limpy a black striped tabby, Princess a gray cat, Callie a brindle marked cat, Riley she is a tabby with all calico colors in her fur, Goldie another gold and white tabby cat, Buddy, he is a beige tabby cat, Ling Ling a huge siamese cat, Moped another siamese cat, Noopy a big white and gray spotted cat, Mr Pibb a tabby, Blackie, black and white cat and Meyers another black and white cat. All cats are loveable, friendly and no one wanted any of them, most of them we rescued where someone had dumped them at either the pound or a dumpster. Fiesty was going to be thrown in a trash can because the owner did not have time to feed her when her mother died having her. I took the time to feed her and she is a sweetheart. Everyone is different in personality and everyone is a loving cat. We have had all of them fixed, all have shots, and are well fed. We used to have 3 dogs also in a seperate lot but all of them had gotten old and we lost them some of our cats are getting pretty old also, Buddy, Limpy, Callie, Princess and Noopy are all older cats we had two cats that lived to be 20 years old or more but both of them are now gone.

THE SNAKE PROMPTLY FORGOTTEN.
WE WERE AT THE HOSPITAL TILL THE EARLY MORNING…I , HAVEING SLEPT ON A LITTLE COT…WAS ,TAKEN HOME, WHEN THE DOCTOR ASSURED , AUNT PEARL'S HEART ATTACK , THOUGH SERIOUS , WAS NOT LIFE THREATHING !
SO , GRANDADDY TOOK US HOME, SO , I COULD BATHE AND EAT BREAKFAST , AND GET TO SCHOOL ON TIME…GRANNY SAT MY LUNCH BOX ON THE COUNTER , I BATHE IN THE # 3 WASHTUB , IN FRONT OF THE FIREPLACE , AS GRANNY MADE BREAKFAST AND PACKED MY LUNCH…

I have 4 cats, 2 are 15 or so, one is 6 and the other is 4, and that is my Main Coon, 23 lbs. My beloved
Sophie dog was deceased on My 27, 2011. She was 16, and the love of my life. She was a rescue, and no one could really tell what she was. But she weighed about 39 lbs. and looked like a miniature collie. (or Shetland Sheepdog.). I don't know if I can ever find another dog like her. So smart and all the other great things a dog can give. I went to the animal shelter recently and out of 15 dogs, there were only 2 that were not pits, or pits mixed. I will not have one of those dogs for sure. Besides, I think they are not cute. I will keep looking for a rescue dog, until I find her (or him). Please do not swamp me with how unreasonable it is not to like pits. We just don't. I like cute dogs, with pretty eyes. My previous cat was 23 when he passed. I only know of one other cat that was 25, a Siamese named Kathy. Does anyone know of a longer living cat?

I have never known a cat to live that long. The longest I"ve had one live was about 12 or so yrs. I hope my Pepper lives to be very old he is an indoor cat, nearly 3 years old. So loveable, lap cat. We had a poodle who lived for 13 years, she was out first baby, years before we had our first child. Still miss her, died in 2000. I have never had another dog since. But I will someday.

I have a two year old black cat, she was a rescue. We found her as a baby in our garage and took her in. She adopted me as soon as she was brought into the house, I am her number one favorite person, though she is pretty possessive of all of her humans. Her name is Shadow and that't her in my forum picture. I've found she seems to know my blood sugar stats before I do as she gets really clingy if I'm getting high or low. She sleeps in my bed, generally on top of me, lol. And she's been known to wake me up at night when I have lows.

A 5 year old cat and a 1 year old dog… we got the dog to help the cat when here sister passed away (she had been ill since we got her at 6 weeks old). It was a blessing we had her as long as we did, but when she passed her sister started to act out, and we didn't want to add another cat in the mix- she'd have shredded it. She tolerates the pup, but every so often I find them curled up napping together or see her playing with him. As soon as she sees us though, its over, and she's back to being aloof. Our pup is almost old enough to take for diabetic service animal training… they have a place here that does it locally with your own animal, and they help you get to through the international certs and so on. He's already got a nose for it.. he won't leave me when my sugars are high or low, and he's insistent.

Three years ago my eldest son was given a 6 month old Black Lab/German Shepard from a Pet Care adoption program of which his aunt was a foster caretaker for dogs. He was found on the streets as a young pup and just didn't have social skills for he would bite or pick fights with other dogs. After the dog had a spat the manager stated that the dog just wasn't adoptable and would be put down. The she turned to my son and said if he wanted him he could have him for free! Conor has been with us since. I absolutely love this dog! He is smart, the only drag is he is a huge 3 year old puppy. He makes rounds through the house's three levels during the night, and bugs me in the early morning hours till I go to bed. A bigger drag is that my son's to be wife hate's him simply because he's a big dog. So he gets to stay with me, "Grandpa."

Do I ever… I live in a rural community with no shelter and the rednecks think my yard has a please dump here sign. So I have 6 dogs and 1 cat. I re-home most of the dumpies that are not defective in some manner. Skitter my mini schnauzer is the only one I paid for. Bitty-bits my son found in the woods behind his girlfriends, now his wife, house. He left him there for about 6 hours hoping the mother would come get him. I thought he was about 4-5 weeks old and hand fed him. Also thought he was going to be a little dog. Now he weighs about 65 pounds. He kills cats, hates anyone that is not part of the family and will take out a wood door if it lightens. The rest have problems too, one if food aggressive, one is just ugly but I love her, ones back legs don't work well, the last one is just angry most of the time. I often feel like the island of defective toys from Rudolph. LOL

I have four cats, two are white and two are gray. I sure am glad I have them. A couple of days ago my wife was out of town and I forgot to put food out for them. The next morning they woke me up; I was soaked with sweat, felt dizzy and shaky. I fed them and tested; it turned out that my BG was dangerously low. I am sure that if I had not woken then I might have gone into a coma. I believe that they likely saved my life. After they ate instead of leaving as they usually do they jumped on the bed and watched me. Each cat has a different personality, one is very sweet; one is cranky; the male is muy macho and the other one is a drama queen. If there were kitty soap operas we would have daytime emmy's everywhere. lol :D

Tink who was abused by her owner found her way to my house and shadow a 19 year old cat my ex-husband kept outside in all weather and decided to ask me if I wanted her or he would just put her to sleep. I have two dogs Ruby who is 12 and found on the street and Lucy a pit puppy whose owners badly broke her leg. I took a loan for surgery and she is well now, full of energy and very sweet. Its work and I get exercise, lots of it. Of course these are my family members, I love each one. I have a friend who would be homeless and my son is without work and home. I know of only one person personally, who ever got cat scratch fever, she was in the hospital, had trouble breathing, but this is rare. I will never give up my cats either. I have allergies, chronic sinusitus that I keep under control with meds. I might be allergic to pet dander, never been tested for that, but I love them too much. I can live with it, as my allergy doc keeps me on good meds that usually prevent sinus infections.

We've had cats all of our married life. We got the first one from the humane society and the rest of them were all strays at one time. You are right - they all have their different personalities. Right now we have two - Goofy is a twenty your old female who lives up to her name and Fred who is about 5 or 6 and has feline AIDS. It's not catchy by humans and as long as we keep him out of fights he should live to a ripe old age. We watch him for any sign of infection. Otherwise he's great. In 42 years, we've had Mitsy, Petunia, Momma Kitty (she was pregnant when she came to us. She had Little Kitty and Sister Kitty), Spooky, Bob, Moocher, Puff, Fluffy, Twin (he looked exactly like Moocher) Fred and Goofy. There were actually a couple of years in there when we didn't have cats - can you believe it?

like jeannie, i've always had pets. currently sharing my home with a kitty who is hiding under the bed! she hates labor day weekend, as i live waaaay too near the cleveland air show. she does ok with regular airplanes heading to downtown airport, but military jets doing an airshow, over and over the place, make her hide!
