Find a good book and read or take a short walk. Look at old family photographs. Start writing the story of your life. My grandmother did and I cherish those spiral bound notebooks and the stories she put in them. They help me to know who she was.

I crochet, in my free time and I'm about to start teaching myself to knit. It keeps my hands and mind busy so I don't snack out of boredom. When my hands are tired from crocheting I read a lot, or think up new recipes.

I am only bored on weekends. miss the grandchildern. I watch them throu the week and
help one of my daugthers, who had a four wheeler accident. now she is trying to read again. with my help she may be able to read some lines of words. Her kids are 4 and 12
they stay with me during the week while her husband works. I work at nights for 3 hrs. cleaning an office. and I am retired. I have type 2 and my husband has copd. God is with us watching over all of us. Thank god for being there for us. Sometimes I don,t know what will happen the next day. Doctor appointments, school, scheduling the hours of the day for everyone.

You're welcome! Another thing I do on weekends is cook some meals in large quantities so I can freeze some for hectic days. I'm single & doing this I have my dinner for that night & maybe 2-3 other meals down the road.:D

I know that this is coming in quite late but I wish I could be bored Grandmaducky you can come to my house any time. There is never a dull moment with 8 kids no not all of them are home but most of them are 5 to be exact oh and the fat rat of a cat we have SIR Butterscotch. He's a Morris cat and will only eat 9 Lives try to give him anything else and he turns his nose up like a little royal snob would as if hes to good for it.But I love him no matter what I got him off the street when he was a little puff ball with his brother, whom we lost to cat lukemia last August 13th.But anyhow as for free time we have game night and it has to be a board game like Manopoly,Life,Twister,Uno,none of the playstation crap or sega anything like that just good ol family fun we did try a caryokie machine let me tell you my kidsare so tone deef the cat ran off like a bat out of hell .

LOL an old friend once told me that only boring people are bored. I don't think that's true, but I am never bored. I love my volunteer work, my church, playing with my family, and sometimes doing absolutely nothing. Life and people are fascinating enough.

Funny I caught this discussion this morning; last night an acquaintance was complaining about being bored and her friend replied "what, you think you always be entertained; who in the H are you". Of course she said it in a loving manor. I keep myself busy here in the DC community and I have many wonderful friends to talk to and joke with. I have to stay busy because my wife is caring for her mother and we have been inseparable for 38 years. I also have four hilarious cats to keep me company I love my cats more than ever they woke me early because they were hungry (I forgot to feed them) and my blood glucose levels were dangerously low and I was beginning to show signs of distress.

We're alike in that respect! I don't like to clean and will do it when I feel it needs it…problem is, by the time I notice it needs it, it REALLY NEEDS it! I'm sorry I didn't help my Mom more when I was younger. She worked from home and put in long hours. Our house was clean but never really tidy…maybe that's where I get it from? Evokes the saying "Dull women have immaculate homes."

I don't have time to be bored! There aren't enough hours in the day to do everything I want to do…and I'm not talking about housework! I volunteer at the local library 2 hours a week. I love to read fiction and always have a book going. Right now I'm reading Abraham Verghese's "Cutting for Stone" and listening to Lisa See's "Dreams of Joy". I listen to audio books in the car or when I'm sewing by myself. I belong to 4 sewing groups and each meets at least once a month. When I'm not meeting with them, I'm either teaching sewing/quilting classes or working on my many UFO's (Unfinished Objects). I've found that keeping up with the posts here on DC consumes a good chunk of time too. I'm walking for an hour with a friend 3 times a week…would like to get that number up. I also play bad golf once or twice a week (Bad golf is better exercise!) I squeeze in shopping in between and love to find bargains. Life is an adventure!

I don't have as much free time (or money or energy) as I wish I had but when I am able to do nothing or whatever I want to do, I enjoy reading and writing and web surfing. I enjoy email and discussion groups like this one and private messages to online friends. I like to watch television (love Netflix). I like donating time to our community garden. I like online shopping and research. I like helping people solve problems. I like making people laugh. I like Facebook games (wheel of fortune). I have found that when I do have the free time it's like an alien abduction … the free time doing nothing just flies by and I wonder where it went. I can't say that I am bored with nothing to do very often. I wish I had that problem. I do understand where you are coming from though because when I have been out of work in the past I could only spend so much time doing any one thing.

I read on your site about some of your interests… I like to try to do research on local areas and find "ghost" houses. Sometimes they are common businesses that you can visit & check out for free. I also like to visit cemeteries. I know you said it's hot there - so maybe visit in the mornings when it's cooler & clean in the hot afternoons. I've never done it - but I'm interested in learning to make charcoal etchings of tombstones. Other than that, I like to do outdoors stuff - visit parks, springs, zoos, etc. And if it's too hot - there are museums & movies. One time I took an art class at our craft store. I'm not an artist, and the serious artists in the class had much sympathy for me - but it killed an afternoon. I can usually find coupons to try to keep the cost down.

I love to read and listen to music. I do a lot of volunteer work for my church and our lutheran school. I spend time with family and friends. This weekend is a little different though since I am not feeling to well as you know. I love baking and cooking as well.

I am retired but rarely have free time. I volunteer 3 days a week. When home I read, knit, crochet, work as a volunteer monitor on a knitting site, record books for the blind
which my church makes available for those in need who can no longer read such as
nursing home residences. I also enjoy cooking and baking and belong to a couple of
recipe clubs in Wi. I meet with other women to support two local shelters for women
and kids. I am busier now than when I worked 40 hours or more per week as a nurse.

I agree with you! Seems I'm busier now retired than when I was working…although I i used to put in 10 to 12 hour workdays when I was on the job so I didn't have time to do much else.

I reply to you and thank you for the hugs! With building a log home, albeit, by myself now, I always have plenty to do. sunday and Monday, I will either be installing a bead board ceiling in the kitchen or grouting the bathroom floor. bored, come on down, or up, or over. Free training and meals provided!
