In response to your question about smoothies, I have not found one that is good for the sugars or the cholesterol. What is really amazing, though, is that when I started drinking them this summer, I NEVER felt better—-I always feel really really really good when my blood sugar is in the 180-290 range…so, on the one hand, I had ZERO lows all summer long, but, on the other hand, my sugars skyrocketed into the 300s, 500s, but I sure as heck felt better, and even do today. I cut way back on the smoothies ( which I purchased at Caseys) because, my latest blood work from 3 weeks ago showed an almost 500 for tryglycerides——-WAY too high, and, I have an inkling it is the Whey that is in the top list of ingredients in those …YES, be VERY careful of products with WHEY in them…they sure as heck gave me a HUGE lift, though…ha,ha…ANNE

All you really need is some fruit, lowfat yogurt, ice, and a blender. (I use frozen fruit, so I don't really need much ice.)

If you want pre-made smoothies, just look in the breakfast or diet section of your favorite supermarket. They usually have some good ones.

Howdy Derek! WELCOME to Diabeticconnect!

What kind of smoothies are you looking for? Premade, or home made? In the recipes section (look on the left border of this page) click on recipes and type in the search rectangle on the right "smoothies" You can do much the same under "product reviews" and see what comes up. Then go to the discussions tab and write "smoothies" into the search rectangle. You never know what you may find.

Of course when you drink a smoothie, You want to make sure it agrees with your system with regard to how high it may take your BG numbers. Test before you drink for a baseline reading, then 2 hrs after drinking take your BG again. If the reading is above a 50 point jump, you may either want to test again at another time with half of the portion you drank the first time, or just move on to another smoothie recipe.

Blessings to you and yours Derek
