I have been sugar free (finally) for the last 3 weeks! I've been using Stevia products instead of Splenda. What do others use?

I usually use Splenda when in a restaurant which I always order non-sweetened iced tea. I love iced tea, and always have a large gallon in my fridge, sweetened with Splenda. But otherwise try to not to use much artificial sweeteners. Would rather have a few forbidden bites of something with real sugar, as some ingredients like Manitol or Sorbitol give me upset stomach, and would rather not deal with that. Lately have had a lot of sweet cravings, not been so great on the diabetic plan as I had been…just now getting back on the bandwagon, sometimes just need a break from it all, then get my senses back and realize I have to get back with the program…Did just get a new Splenda cookbook, will let you know which recipes are good. If someone wants to share what they do when they have a chocolate craving big time or just a sweet craving, other than the weight watchers frozen desserts, let us know! That is always my downfall!

I'm a splenda fan. It doesn't elevate my bg levels and it helps keep the cravings away with sweets. I bake with it and the family loves it as well. If anyone has any reasons why it unhealthy please let me know.

I avoid sweeteners of all types as much as possible. The only sweetener I use is whatever is in my SF gum, what is in my Metamucil fiber drink and the occasional drumstick ice cream cone.

Another good product is xylitol. I buy it on the Internet 10 pounds at a time. It acts just like sugar in cooking, and does not have the carbs that other substitutes have. It looks just like sugar. I hear occasionally that it gives some people loose bowels, but it is rare.

After doing a little research on artificial sweetners, I've decided to limit my intake. A tiny pinch in a pitcher of iced tea, is all.

i like splenda or the store brand equivalent.. whichever is cheaper or on sale… just because it doesnt affect my bg and i havent tried anything else yet!

Wow! Becoming a purist by necessity. The only sweetner I use is a tiny little Splenda in a pitcher of iced tea.

I really like Splenda and don't like Truvia. The pink and blue packets of sweetener will do in a pinch but I do prefer Splenda/Sucralose.

Gee, thanks guys! I certainly appreciate passion when I read it! Honey is a gift from Father God! Anybody else weighting in on the "sweetner" conversation. I would really like to know …Splenda, Truivia, Stevia!

Splenda and Agave

Nana_anna 2011-09-02 00:09:19 -0500 Report

What is Agave?

MamaSpook 2011-09-02 00:21:59 -0500 Report

It is a natural sweetener made from the Agave plant. It tastes like honey, does not involve harming any bees nor are you using bee vomit to sweeten with and it absorbs slowly in your system so you have no sugar spikes. You can google it if you want more details.

Well your personal beliefs are your business, But I would prefer you not use loaded terms to refer to things many of us do to live. "Bee vomit" to refer to honey is rather off-putting.

it is what it is just like meat is dead animal pieces and yes, everybody has different opinions on what is right and what is wrong to eat and I respect that. I prefer a compassionate cruelty free diet, others don't. It is their own personal choice. Goodnight and have a great tomorrow.

Hi Everyone. I hardly ever use sweenters. I'm almost vegan. Haven't had a piece of meat in 2 months. I have my husband starting on a new diet and hopefully I can help him with it and get the extra weight off him.

and because I farmed and ground up corn and oats, I became a "cereal killer" (LoL!). There are people who believe vegetables have feelings too. Cruelty free for vegetables too? Good night Mama
