My doctor recommended I do a fasting test every morning. I've just been diagnosed, so would you say test more often than that?

Howdy Leslie, WELCOME to DiabeticConnect!

The minimum you should be testing per day is 3 times per day. 1st fasting ( after you get up from bed ) 2 hours ("post prandial") after any meal you choose, (can be rotated to different meals on different days) and just before going to bed, so you aren't too low at night.

Praying God's richest blessings on you and yours, Leslie

I believe in testing before and after eating. Especially when first starting out. By testing what I ate I was able to get my blood sugar down from the 300-400 range to almost normal numbers in about a month. If you don’t test how you going to know what the foods you eat are doing to your blood sugar. By testing my A1C went from 14.1 to 5.9 in about 4 months.

I test 2x3 times ea day…like to stay on top of bg#'s…can tell if food I ate was good or bad for me and then I can do something about it..or it tells me if I need a snack…I would not be without my meter..
