Has anyone had any experience with Victoza? My doctor is recommending it as a non-insulin alternative for me.

I can sympathize with LauraS - it is expensive and i am taking it. 9 pens is about $2700 according to my insurance sompany. however, that being said, it works for me. i am in the process of starting and already insulin has been cut twice - - it is a hormone that increases the absorbsion of insulin. That is why it can cause you to lower your insulin intake. Laura, I can't believe that your insurance company is saying it is not approved. FDA is in the process of approving for weiight loss as well. I would appeal to the doctor to get you samples or even argue the case to the insurance company. Good luck to all who try it. It does work. Tamarah - it is the victoza that is making you feel sick. That is the side effect. Metformin has never made me feel sick - been taking that for 10 years. Victoza actually cause me to have a lot of gas - burping and the other as well.

In other discussions on Metformin, it has been reported by others that Met has made them sick, so just because Met hasn't done that to you, doesn't mean ot won't do it to her.

I am currently taking it along with metformin. I am not sure which one makes me feel sick BUT the victoza actually curbs your appetite and has my mumbers within range when I test my BS but again I am on two things and I am not sure if one is working or that both are doing thier job together. Since taking it I have lost weight… Like Laura said it does cause some burning at the site sometimes but all in all the biggest fear for me prior to taking it was just thinking it would be difficult for me to inject myself. 2 months in and now I am a pro at injecting myself… I wish you the best of luck … take care!! :-)

I was on Victoza. It worked great for me. I had to stop using it twice due to insurance issues and now I can't use it because my insurance said it was not approved (by them) but they let me have it for a few months. Don't get me started, I was actually crying in the Shoprite cause I couldn't fill my prescription. The retail cost is over $200 for about 10 days supply. The side effects can be scary so read up before you start. I did have some buring at the injection site but nothing out of control. If I had nausea it was brief. Good luck to you.

I have never taken this product but I DO take insulin. Insulin has been wonderful for me. It has given me more engery and my numbers have been excellent! Just remember if this product does not work out, insulin is a wonderful option. I have only good things to say about it! I went from running 300 to 400 to running perfect numbers like 115 and 120 on my insulin! I've never had a problem with it. I don't understand why some poeople treat being on insulin as a punishment or last resort .it has been a God send for me. So if this "non insulin" alternative does not work. Remember insulin is a good thing! The body accepts it readily. Our own bodys produce it. Its a wonderful treatment option! Insulin shots don't hurt and its easy to use and I've had no side effects from it! I wish you the very best of luck in your treatment! If it does not work out for you, consider insulin. You are the one in control of your treatment and know your options. If something isn't working or making you ill change the treatment. I do hope this works out for you! God bless!

I was taking 120 lantus and about 80 to 100 of rapid insulin so over 200 units of insulin a day my a1c was 11.7 so doc decided to give victoza a chance with in 3 months i was at 7.3 a1c it has litterly saved my life im getting my life back together I dont have insurance and was able to get company to provide meds at no cost so if you have money issues most companies have help on site most doctors will help but u must ask alott of docs wont offer this help unless u ask. This is great Med and am forever grateful
