You've all been very supportive and welcoming to us and our cause, and because I'd gotten questions as to what JDCA would be doing next, I wanted to share with you one of the first initiatives we created in order to help diabetics and donors dictate where they would like their money to go.
As our first small step, we've created donor action letters. The way these work is that if you make a donation to a charity, you attach one of these letters to your check, and it stipulates where the money you send should go.
Here's the template on our site: http://thejdca.org/uploads/Donor_Action_Lette...
Now, if you agree with our definitions of a cure and our goal, you could donate to a charity, include this letter, and the charity is LEGALLY obligated to follow these instructions.
Of course, there are also quite a few people who don't agree with our definitions. If you are one of those people, know that if you donate to a charity and want your funds put towards something specific ( research, prevention, treatment etc.) you can draft a letter similar to this and include it with your check so that money is allocated where you want it.
This is one of our first small steps in allowing donor's to voice where they want there money to go, with more coming soon. Thanks again for the support, and I'll keep you posted on the ongoing steps we're taking to ensure diabetics have their say.
