I just checked my blood sugar, 2 hours after a light lunch, I'm terribly confused. My initial result was 164, I decided to check it again and got 121. Since there was such a large difference, I checked it for a third time and it was 141. All happening within a 2 min. timespan. Why are the readings so varied? Could my meter be faulty?

I always make sure and wash my hands before a reading, also I test my meter with the provided test die to make sure it is within the limits. It should be within the test limits of normal written on back of the test strips. This is how you test to make sure your meter is functioning correctly. Sometimes results do vary , but if its an extreme difference I would test the meter to be sure its functioning correctly! Good luck :)

Thanks for the info :) I do wash my hands prior but wasn't aware of the test for the meter, I'll give that a try.

Make sure and use the special die that came with the test kit to test the meter. :) I hope this helps!

I just got a meter, for the first time, and it said to use the control solution to test the meter. What control solution?! There wasn't any and I can't wait around finding some. So I just used the meter without it.

Oh the control soultion is used to test the meter and check if its running correctly. It is a special red dye and comes in a bottle. The dye must be used to make sure the meter is reading correctly. The numbers on the back of the strips that say low, normal, high are used to check with the control soulution and only the control solution. Id ask the company to send you your bottle tell them it did not have it. How are you supposed to check your meter without it?? Hopefully the company will ship it out soon for you! Id ask right away.:) good luck and God bless!

Well, I've checked and the meter I received did not come with a test kit so I guess I'll be getting in touch with the manufacturer. Thanks for all the information!

Your welcome! My supplier sends me a new test die every three months with my new strips. I have just gotten in a "habbit" of checking my meter every so often to make sure its working correctly. I did not know what the dye was for either at first until I asked. So live and learn I always say :)
