Well everyone I went to my doctors appointment this morning at 9:30 with fasting BS so they could do lab work. The docotor and I talked for over an hour they took blood and she said results shpuld be back tomorrow or thursday. In the mean time she wanted me to go home have lunch and come back to do a BS she could not believe my BS were so out of wack since getting bitten by what ever it was that bit me. I came home and had a Glucerna shake and a piece of ham and went back in at 1:00 so they could do my BS for themselves it was 345. The doctor was speachless. She ran a full blood panel plus so if that shows up nothing I do know what to do. Anyone else ever had this problem or does anyone have any suggestions.

Margo, when you went home to eat did you test before you ate? I have never had a glucerna shake so I don't know how that affects blood sugar, actually I don't trust them or any digestable product that says it's for diabetics but that's just me. I rarely eat ham because it is naturally high in sugar. I may add a few pieces to a quiche but that's about the extent of my ham intake and I love ham. I have wacked out BS also but that comes from not being able to be very active :(. Good luck and I would report that doctor that skipped out on you!

Margo, Do you have type 1? How does the site where you were bitten appear. Just before I was diagnosed as type 1, I went backpacking and had a spider get into my tent. It bit me 3 or 4 times leaving angry, itchy red welts. I'm sure my glucose was in the range of 600 at the time, but those bites did get better before I was diagnosed and started on insulin. The spider bit only me and not my girlfriend who was in the tent. It must have preferred my sweet blood to hers. My bites took a couple weeks to heal if that's any help. Be well.

It has cleared up. I have a pinhead size hard know there know and a hugh scare. It took about 5 weeks for it to completely heal though. I am type one and have been for over 30 years. I was really upset because the doctor I was going too when this happened said to call them the begining of the next week if my BS's were not any better and when I did I discovered the office was closed because the doctor took a new job somewhere else so I had to find a new doctor and it takes forever to get in with a new doctor these days, so it went without being looked at for long than it should have after the first appointment for the bite.

They don't have quick care or urgent cares facilities in your area? Do any of the chain pharmacies have a mini clinic in them where you could have been seen sooner than you were?

No I live in a very small rural area and if I go to the er my insurance does not cover it with out a pre auth from my doctor which thanks to them leave I did not have

then I guess the urgent care or quick care or mini clinic would be not there or prohibited by your ins co policy too? What does the ins co expect you to do if you have an accident? Get pre authorization to have a car wreck? (not very funny)

Yes, it is very dunb the way they have things set up. I don't know. When my husband took me to the urgent care when I got the bite that started it all, we had to pay the bill in full at the time of service and now we arewaiting to see if the insurance is going to wait and reimburse us for any of it.
