I am T2. I recently lost child support (our son graduated from high school) and I have had to down grade all my medications, and even with that… I still can not afford my test strips. My endocrinologist has been nice enough to "donate" some free samples that the medical reps leave.
However the samples only have 10 strips and all I was able to procure was 3 boxes. I am frustrated that I can't do what I need to because I am not on medicare/caid, and can't afford my test strips. Thanks everyone

I understand where your coming from. I am also in hard times financially but I need test strips every month. If I can recommend a company that sells cheap diabetic supplies I would tell you to visit These guys have a reasonable price that seems to be lower then all other sellers like Walmart, CVS and the online diabetic sites. Please let me know if this helps you.

If you are not on Medicare and have been spending over $70 per box of the OneTouch Ultra test strips at Walmart or Walgreens or any pharmacy you are spending way too much. There are a few online companies that sell them for less than $40. The best price on one the one touch ultra blue test strips are at I have been buying all my supplies with them for the past year. They are a reliable company and they have the nicest staff that will assist you if you have any questions. Their price for a box of 50ct one touch ultra test strips is around $33.00 and they always sell their strips with long expiration dates.

Here is a huge price list with pictures. I would suggest a different meter and strips for what you can buy YOUR PAYING WAY TOO MUCH. I have seen stores jack up the price of strips 10 times the cost hope this page helps. And to the ladies online I'm Divorced and looking to try to spoil a good woman

I have been buying my One Touch strips on eBay since 2007. I look for the mail order boxes (cheaper) average $35-40 per hundred. I, also, have tried many of these plans but I have a ROTH 401 and don't qualify and the state want you to be broke, broke, broke before they will help. Have a happy holiday,.

You have not said what type of meter you have. I have an "accu-check aviva" and i test from 4 to 10 times a day. My insurance company pays for al of my test supplies andmy insulin. maybe yours will also. Call them.Post the type of meter and see if maybe someone on here has a few extra.

I was just @ Walmart the other day, & saw ultra touch strips for 20 bucks a box. Now that is the lowest price that I've ever came across. I cannot recall how many strips per vial, or what you can or can't afford, but like I said, that's the lowest I've ever seen them. (The price just goes up from there.)

thanks margo, I checked it out and they redirected me to another site that registered me for a discount rx card. I will see how that goes when the card shows up. But thanks greatly.

This is what i have found (you might have to change meters) the walmart meter has the cheapest strips if you have to pay out of your pocket for them i looked all over the internet and on the walmart site walmart is the only store we have in my town

aprylrayne 2011-08-19 20:10:20 -0500 Report

before I lost my medical ins, they offered me a free meter, which I sent off for… I love this thing, because it is small and versitile, it initially came with 10 test strips (which I went through in 5 days by testing twice a day), I have seen the ones that Wal*mart sells, actually bought one when I was first diagnosed, and had issues using it from the test strips to the lancing device to the meter itself.
thanks GrandmaDucky.

I use the Relion Micro from Walmart and have no problems with it. It might have been just that one meter. I used to use a One Touch, but couldn't afford the test strips anymore, either. I test 5-8 times a day, so it was getting pretty expensive…

grandmaducky 2011-08-19 20:15:18 -0500 Report

i have one touch i love it but i sometimes test more so i need more strips then doctor orders so i was looking for the cheapest test strip i could find :)

Tluvtigger 2011-08-19 10:11:14 -0500 Report

You definitely need your test strips. I also agree, call the company. I had a problem with being able to obtain test strips because the pharmacy did not carry the strips I needed which for specific for a monitor I had, and the company actually fed ex'd me a new monitor and strips for free. They were so helpful. Also, I am not sure what the company is called now, but it was formerly Liberty Medical, I was able to get testing supplies at much less of a cost than my prescription plan. maybe do a google search for them. Good Luck!!!

aprylrayne 2011-08-19 20:23:55 -0500 Report

tluvtigger: That was my father's first suggestion, I had to explain to him that most of the plans out there are like Liberty Medical, are for senior citizens or those who can get on medicaid or are on medicare.

margokittycat 2011-08-19 13:13:15 -0500 Report

Liberty medical is only for seniors. I know years ago they use to cater to everyone but about three years ago they went to medicare and seniors only.

AuntieM234 2011-08-19 11:16:05 -0500 Report

Are you a senior on Medicare Luv? Because in order to get anything "free" from Liberty Medical, they want you to have Medicare or some other insurance they can bill. I have Medicare, but I also have a HMO supplemental insurance (Senior Advantage Plus) that has their own pharmacy, so they (Liberty) won't send anything to me. It doesn't matter, though because my HMO doesn't charge me a co-payment for my strips. I pay for my Medicare AND the supplemental. Its well worth it, though.
Since Apryl doesn't have insurance, IMO, Liberty won't be any help.

Tluvtigger 2011-08-19 11:56:45 -0500 Report

Ohh…I am not on medicare or a senior. I do have insurance though, that might have been what it was. I didn't get it for free, but I was only billed a very minimal charge for my supplies. They must have billed my insurance for the difference. I just don't understand why everything has to be so complicated.

Hi. Maybe you can go to the department of human services and see if they can give you the state insurance. If you qualify with a lower income then surely they will give you the insurance! If you do not qualify, try going to your local health department and explain your case and they know of many programs that may be able to help you! If that does not work wallmart has a very affordable meter and the strips that come with it are also very affordable! You will be suprised on how inexpensive there brand actually is! Hopefully this helps you! Sometimes manufactures also have patient assist programs but usually its only for a "one time " supply. I know this because I called before for myself for bayer strips because my medicare would not cover them. I ended up going with a generic meter and strips that was covered. My heart goes out to you! I don't know what id do without my medicare! Perhaps you can ask the diabetes assocation if they know of any programs? These are all some good ideas and I pray at least one of them work for you! It is so tough loosing your support! My daughter turns 18 in nov so my medicare will be cut then. I just pray it will be ok and I'll be able to make it! I know what your going through and I'm sorry! My ex owes us 20,000 back child support as he has NEVER paid. He is a veteren and the va refuses to honnor my court order and take money out of his 3,000 $ a moth check! Uuuuuugha! So any way I understand how your feeling! I wish the very best for you and God bless!

realsis77: I have been to social services for food stamps, they claim I make too much, I know I can try disability, however I have found that if I apply for disability (diabetes is an automatic "ok" here in VA), not only would I have a good chance of getting it, but it would take away from my medicare when I get to my golden years. I haven't been able to go to the office to apply for medicaid, however I have been planning a day off … I may need to take it sooner than I need to…
Honestly never thought of the health department… for this anyway…
your ex is retired military? and they won't honor your court order? I have a friend I can ask, and see what she tells me… she is an advocate for making ex spouses pay… if it wasn't for her, I would have lost child support when my ex retired because I didn't know there was a difference between where his 'active duty pay' came from and where his retirement came from… she gave me a fax number and I faxed over my court ordered child support and it never stopped like I feared it would.
I have blessed her every day since, she is my angel. I will check with her, and the health dept. and see if i can bring you back some good news…

Call the manufacturer - most have programs to help those in your situation. Also, check on - I have purchased needles, extra strips, etc there at a reduced price. Google it!!! Good luck!
