Christie,
I am in East Texas let me know if you need my help. I know my way through the Texas system. You can go to http://www.hhsc.state.tx.us/Help/WHP/index.shtml TD of Health and Human Services. Get all the paper work required on that page then go to the local office. Ask the desk clerk about emergency services. Also dial 211 and tell them where you live and that you need a free clinic in your area. They are really great help and nice to talk to. If you need anything else to go on just send me an message and I will help anyway I can. You also need to go ahead and apply for SSDI here http://www.ssa.gov/applyfordisability/ they will turn you down the first time and you will have to appeal, but you are paid either from the time you apply or the time you became disable. So chin up you are doing all the right things.

I don't know how the set up is in TX, Christine, but in most of the states I've been in recently Medic aid is distributed through a local office in a county or a large city. You might want to look either in a phone book or on the internet for a listing of a Medic aid office in your locality. I don't know in what city or county you live, so I can't look it up on the internet for you. Check those resources out please.

Blessings to you and yours
James

I've dealt with offices like that too often for my liking. I find that is a P.I.T.A. but the best way to find out anything is to go to the office and get seen by an intake worker. It is not convenient or necessarily easy, and it seems that is the way the system is designed. If you are not persistent AND don't jump through ALL the hoops they tell you to, you won't get the assistance. They don't make it easy because they want to reserve the funds for the truly needy. They also are trying to weed out those who would abuse or "game" the system.

I pray you have success!

James
