My insurance company is sending me a Precision XTRA Advanced Diabetes Management System. They have placed all the Ultras on the high end of my copay and this on the lower. They are sending the system free and the strips will be cheaper. Any one use this?

I tried out an earlier version of this. I think the current Precision Xtra is the 3rd or 4th generation of monitor by that name. The strips are actually kind of expensive, but they are individually wrapped rather than loose in vials. If you buy the 100-strip packets, they should come with a couple of ketone test strips as well. All calibration and readouts are done through the strip port: before testing, you insert the correct calibration strip (glucose or ketone) and wait until it reads and preps before you pull it out and insert the test strip. The data connection that downloads the meter information connects through the strip port as well.
