I believe there should be a rehab for diabetics. Not an out patient. A place to stay with other diabetics that have trouble with understanding and controling their diabetes. You feel more comfortable knowing your not the only screw up. And health care people to help. I feel diabetes is like AA. In AA you have to stop drinking and find what triggers you. With diabetes Your life changes with or without you and you have to find a way to cope and live better withh it.

I am a longtime member of A.A. and I consider diabetes an opportunity to practice these principles in all our affairs. When I learned that I had diabetes it was easy to admit I was powerless. When I took my inventory it was fairly clear what my part in it was and that made it easier to change my habits. I made a list of all those I had harmed and that is a long list. If I don't take care of this I will let down all the people that I love and all that love me. I think diabetics should sponsor other diabetics.

Howdy Zanne! WELCOME to diabetic connect!

There ARE inpatient centers for People with Diabetes (PWDs). Here's a google list of some of them: http://www.google.com/search?q=inpatient+cent...=

The difference with AA and PWDs is with alcohol a person may stop consumption and not be irreparably harmed.

Try that with food? Not long and you have all sorts of problems and potentially death.

And I take exception to the assertion that PWDs are screw-ups. This condition may come upon us for many varying reasons. There may be elements of screwing up in some of those, but that often is not the main reason our bodies malfunction the way they do.

Our task as PWDs is to do the best we can to manage the condition(s) we have.

Willing to discuss this further Zanne, if you feel I misunderstood you

Praying God's richest blessings shower you and yours

Sorry, I didn't mean we were screw ups. I meant feeling like one.

I DO KNOW THAT FEELING but it is not true.

I felt like that too at times and it was an irrational thought when I analyzed it. You are not a screw up too, just because you're afflicted by this condition. I suspect that if I got to know you personally I would not say "this my friend Zamme is a screw up!" We are humans with human failings but not screw ups!

True jayabee. We have no choice in the matter , we just are diabetics and that is that. It is something that we can not help. It is nothing we have done nor are we "screw ups"
