I would eat a bag of chips after school it was like heaven until I started to lose weight in Middle school then in High school in the 9th grade I would fall asleep in all of my classes use the bathroom alot & get really thirsty my mouth was like a sponge so one Sunday I threw up so I could not go to church . The nexr day My parents made me check my blood sugar on my Grandmother's Meter & it shot up to 500 so my dad called the doctor & he told him don't take your daughter to me take her to the hospital & that's when I found out I have Type 1 Diabetes in October 1999 . Now I use the Cozmo Insulin Pump

I was the same way could eat anything and began loosing weight. Thirst tired and peeing all the time. My mom would take me to the doctor and they would look at things and say everything was fine. One day my mom took me back in to the doctor and he finally did lab work told my mom to take me home and he would call when results were in, when he called he told my mom to get me to the hospital my BG was 1300 and I would be in a comma before long if she did not get me there he would meet us at the hospital. I was immediately put on an IV Insulin drip and spent two weeks in the hospital.

Yep after going back and forth to the doctor for almost a month and it never dawned on him to even test for it because no one in my family had ever had diabetes except my great grandmother on my my side who died at 95. No one on my biological fathers side had it and no one else on my moms side. I was very luck and glad to be alive.

I believe I had Diabetes long before I was Dxd. Thinking back and knowing what I know now, I'm almost sure of it. I remember, though, that I used to begin feeling poorly for no apparent reason. Now I think it was probably because of something I ate that boosted my BG. Years later, I had a friend who was a T1. We went on a long day trip one weekend and we got to discussing how I had been feeling. She said I think you may have Diabetes. Well, I told her no way! So she challenged me to let her check my BG. I did so, and it was way over 500! Fortunately, we were almost back home by then. I didn't have health insurance at the time, so I let her give me a shot of insulin, and she sent me home with a Meter. I phoned my daughter and told her I needed to get health insurance right away. The very next day (Monday) she called Kaiser Permanente and they sent out a Rep who signed me up, gave me a temporary card, and told me I would be able to go right away to be treated. I shudder to think what might have happened if my friend and I hadn't had that talk!

I had all the bad eating habits. When I was young my doctor told me that I had hypoglycemia and warned me that I might develop diabetes. Back then I had a super fast metabolism and an endless supply of energy. I weighed a buck ten and felt great all the time. At least I have my memories, a positive outlook and had someone tell that they thought I was only 48 (I'll turn 58 next month).

I was an ice creamaholic before my diabetes was diagnosed in March 2010. It was nothing to eat a box of ice cream sandwiches or those nutty buddy ice cream cones just about every night of the week. I still have a scoop or two now and then. There's no question my life has changed since becoming diabetic but honestly I have to say for the better. I'm more in touch now, lowered my weight, and conscious of what I eat and don't eat. How I wish I had this attitude "back then."

Wow… that is certainly a blast from the past Jayabee. You must be as old as I am. :)

How novel, grandmaducky calling me mom! lol! No problem, I'm called mom by most of my daughters' friends! I could have given birth at 18, but I was 18 years, 26 days old when I married the father of my children. ;-) Mara

I"m 46 but my mother is 83. Back when I came along, she was considered old to have a baby, (I was adopted as an infant) but my point is that in school I felt so bad, because my parents were the age that my friend's grandparents were. Most of my friends my age have no idea what it is like to take care of an elderly parent like I am doing.

I understand what you're saying, Tabby, since my two daughters are nine years, five months apart, I was of the younger group of parents with my oldest; not as much so with my youngest. I wasn't really old, though, for being pregnant. I was 29 years, seven months when I had her. I was 25 days shy of 20 when I had my first.

I thought you were 52, and come to think of it, I have no idea of Ray's age! Btw, I'm impressed at your knowledge of song lyrics! ;-) Mara

The 52 in my screen name designates the year of my birth. The Jayabee part is a kinda phonetic spelling of the initials of my first middle and last names, Mara

I sing Tenor in the choir —————————-10 or 12 feet away! LoL!

Seriously, I do ok. In the last 2 churches I joined I was approached after the service and recruited for the choir. (I must be doing something right)

I always loved singing. My sister and I began singing duets in church when I was about ten years old. Our Church had a radio program which was broadcast every Sunday morning. We would go to the radio station on Saturday night to record the show. My sister was eight years older than I, but we were extremely close. We had a great time listening to ourselves on the radio the following day!
