I thought of you today as I did something stupid. Putting up bead board on the kitchen ceiling of the log house, I was coming down the ladder and thought I was on the bottom step. apparently I wasn't, or someone lowered the floor. Ouch! Hoping a nights sleep will help. By the way, how is your no smoking going?

Harlen 2011-08-13 21:12:47 -0500 Report

Still smoke free
Done that one too wakes you up I hope all is well in the am for you

Hey Harlen, haven't been on in a while myself, sorry to hear your not feeling well. Back injuries usually take longer to heal. Make sure you get lots of rest! Hope your back soon! Will pray for your speedy recovery!! :)

You know, Mr. H, had you had Grammom's preventative potion before you tried to move the dresser down the hill, it would not have hurt so much. Yes, the potion for prevention is the same as the one for the cure!

I been thinking about your situation. You need an office chair on wheels and 2 ski poles. If your back is hurting you may not be able to propel yourself along with your feet/legs. Just be careful going down the stairs. You need to strap yourself to the chair, tilt it back a bit, and use the poles for balance. Getting up the stairs is tougher. You use the strap that you secured yourself to the chair with on the way down and secure it to the backrest of the chair and to your feet. Sit your butt on the stairs and use your arms to push yourself up to the next step. (You could also use the ski poles) Repeat until you are about 3 feet beyond the top step. This way the chair will be on the floor also. The greater benefit of this is that as you are going up, the chair is gently pulling on your legs and lower back, helping to realign your spline! Hard to believe that you could gain this much knowledge in one day on a Diabetic site!
PS: Don't use Grammom's cure all before going down the stairs!

You left out the all important "worming" down the hall way. Perfect…

I thought "worming" was tequila! That is not Grammom's recipe, but I am sure she would not have minded!

LOL!!! I was thinking more along the dance move worm…would be superb on his back along with the stair exercise. LOL!!! Oh you're talkin bout the recipe down at the end of Copperhead Road huh?? LOL

No, Grammom's recipe for almost anything was a combo of whiskey, Real Lemon, a sweetener, ice and a blender. You repeat it every half hour for 3 hours. It may not cure you, you just won't care!

OHHHHHHHH cool version of a hot tottie. Nice. That is definitely the truth. I thought you may have been referring to the white lightening. LOL!!!!!!! After that you just won't remember…wait what was I saying??

Yes, the hot tottie is used for the sore throat, feeling cold, aches and pains. The cool tottie is more of a warmer weather remedy. I figured harlen would need the cool tottie. My lower back was killing me earlier this week and I did not have the needed ingredients for the above. I found the Oxycotin worked pretty well.

Okay, idea #2. Get a friend to rip some plywood into 18" long strips and secure them to the stair treads. Make sure the joints are smooth. Coat the plywood with a generous helping of petroleum gel (AKA Vaseline). Sit on the top, arms in the air and yell "WHEEE! on your way down. Whoops, I forgot, have someone pile pillows at the bottom! Do not use the ramp to go up.

I have to agree with kittenpurr about liking and disliking. I am saddened to see that there are 9 people (now 13 people) that "like" that Harlen has injured himself and won't be available for a bit.

Harlen 2011-08-11 18:13:39 -0500 Report

I think that they mean they like me, and thats how I look at it
Best wishes

I am sorry, but I guess my mother called me the "devil's advocate" too many times. So, the answer is yes! Myself, I am not glad that Harlen has caused himself to be injured, so I can't "like" that this has happened. To be fair, I think the "dislike" number should also show up!
