First of all, welcome to our website/community/family. I can relate to the limited resources that you are working with. As Harlen mentioned, perhaps you should look into a local food bank, check out the food stamp program in your area, contact local churches, and locate your area's United Way Agencies to find out about community service agencies that may be able to help. Are you in a climate where you can grow your own fruits and vegetables? Consider lower cost foods like yogurt, tuna, low carb pastas, beans, homemade soups, brown rice, and keep your eyes open for coupons and/or store brands and specials. There are websites that often offer coupons, information on specials and coupon match ups and freebies. Do you have other budget areas in which you can cut back to free up more money for a food budget? Make sure to add plenty of water (free) to your diet. Do you have family/friends/neighbors who may be able to help you out? Are there any student programs where you are a student that may be able to offer advice or assistance? Making things from scratch (breads and such) can be a lower cost and healthier alternative to many store bought processed items. Look and ask for coupons but realize that many products with coupons are not always healthier options. Make sure to read food labels especially when it comes to serving sizes. Please remember that your health is extremely important and proper nutrition can help with more than just diabetes. Shop at discount stores (or stores that match prices) and farmer markets and converse with others in your situation how they manage on limited funds. I am one who truly believes in making lists so as ideas come to you for getting more for your money, write them down. As you add to your menu planning list you may be able to find new or creative ways to live on less. Check out the archives here (discussion page - search) with keywords like "shopping," "budget," and such to get ideas from other posts that have addressed your question / discussion in the past. Prayer may not help … but it certainly won't hurt.

I agree with everything except the last line, Ray. Prayer always helps, even when it seems the answer is no, it may just be wait a while, not yet. And if the answer IS "no" its usually because he has something BETTER for you than what you were asking for.
