I haven't been eating breakfast for the last year. I've been watching my numbers and they've been good. Now I'm having the problem with lunch. I know I can't skip lunch as well.
I started drinking Ensure high protein at the beginning of this week. My numbers have been great with that being my lunch but while I've been desperately trying to ignore it I just can't anymore. Apparently, this drink ( which has 25% of daily protein and lots of other vitamins) like when I've tried taking daily vitamins makes me nauseous. I don't know what to do. I'm just SICK of dealing with food!!!! I don't know what to do about lunch!!!!!!

I think breakfast is the most important meal of the day…and there are many very simple ways to supply your body with food to "break the fast" of the evening from no nourishment for the last 8 hours. To have good numbers, you simply have to focus on protein. I nuke two eggs in a cereal bowl on a layer of olive oil. You can add leftovers from the prior evening and have easy clean up. With this, I can skip lunch (I like a simple green salad), but you won't be hungry until dinner, and you will have fed your body throughout the day, when your body needs it. If I didn't eat anything all day, then I am probably super hungry when dinner time arrives, and over-eat, so I wasn't hungry in the morning…may not work for you, but definitely does for me. I exercise in the morning before breakfast, and that improves my appetite. Anyway, whatever works for you is fine.

Have you tried drinking Glucerna for breakfast, it is specially made for diabetics so it does not spike Blood Sugar levels. I would do a light salad or a light sandwich. You can't skip your meals, snacks maybe but meals no I use to skip breakfast every morning when I worked outside the home because I did not have time to eat before I had to leave because I commuted for an hour to and from work.

That solution is easy. Stop eating for 2 full weeks (maybe it would take 3 weeks) and then you won't have to worry about food anymore! See how easy it can be?
Okay, serious now. How about an omelet for B-fast, brunch, or lunch? That will give you some food that is low carb, eggs, cheese, peppers, mushrooms, onion, okay, even a piece of whole grain bread to clean it up with. I suspect you daily vitamin has iron in it. Most women need the extra iron while in their monthly cycles, but it can upset the stomach. Compare what your drink has in it to what your vitamin has in it. Maybe you are getting too much iron. When you get the omelet made, give me a call and I will test taste it to be sure it is safe! Jim

Well I rarely eat in a way I shouldn't. Tonight I was bad. It's been so hot that the idea of cooking the most simple thing just seemed like too much to bare. So I ordered a pizza for me and the girls. Yes I did. I ate two pieces. I just checked my 2 hour bs. It's 80!!!!! Dont worry. This doesn't mean I'm switching to junk food.

What does that? I have been seeing numbers too low for what i eat lately. (I posted another discussion on whether I should see about getting off Metformin because of it). But yeah, I had "real" ice cream Friday night and tested BG89. Today I had 2 starches at lunch and again tested 89.
THAT just confuses me!

It is not fair! THAT SHOULDN'T BE! Ice cream, an old time dish of it, will have me over 400! How about I send you my numbers and you send me yours. This way they will average out and we will both be healthy!

So I went grocery shopping today. I bought a few healthy soups. Has anyone tried those flat buns? I got the multi-grain (not the honey one) one. 19 carbs, not bad on fat or calories. We'll see how it goes.

They work really well for mini pizzas. I used a very small amount of sauce and then we put sliced mushrooms, baby spinach and cheese on them. They were awesome! Served with a green salad and some cold ice tea, yummy!

I actually gave up bread also and exchanged it for fajita wraps. I found wraps at my local grocery store that has a net carb of 3 (minus the 7 grabs of fiber)!!! Awesome! And they taste good!

I too have times when absolutely nothing is appetizing to me. But if I skip meals I risk going hypo so I know I have to eat at my regular intervals. I bought some protein bars to eat at those times. While they are not necessarily a super "low-carb" option, they put something in me to keep my numbers right.

V8. Really? I can cook very well but except making myself and my family dinner… I hate cooking just for myself yet I hate "fake food". Yes I know I'm a pain but there you have it!

Hot Dogs? You eat hot dogs? I brought some home from camp (leftovers from a cookout) for the dogs and my wife, a sanitarian (food inspector) wouldn't feed them to the dogs and they were all beef!

That is right. I forgot about looking at the Kosher foods. I know their restrictions and supervision is more stringent than the governments. thanks.

I have some great recipes that I'd be happy to share with everyone.

jayabee52 2011-08-09 15:15:42 -0500 Report

Please do share them! The BEST place on DC to share them with the most people would be in the recipes section.

healthcoach97 2011-08-09 15:28:36 -0500 Report

I will do that. I will put a bunch of recipes together for everyone within the next few days. If there are certain types of dishes that anyone is particularly interested in, let me know.

Me too. Well, dinner isn't too bad because I cook for my family. Like tonight we are having salmon with steamed broccoli with Hollanders sauce. But I know I need to eat during the day and I just can't stand even thinking about food the rest of the day.

How about a chef salad for lunch? Boiled eggs, tomatoes, cucumbers, etc. and it won't heat the house up in the heat of the day.

iceman71962 2011-08-06 15:59:07 -0500 Report

I just seem to have trouble figureing out what to eat that tastes good and doesn't send my sugar off the charts, I also am haveing problrms with how many carbs are ok to have per day.

wes69 2011-08-08 00:27:57 -0500 Report

My dietician has me eating 60 grams of carbs for breakfast 75 at lunch 60 at dinner and 15 for bedtime snack but thats specific to me, everybody is different. I dont always have that many carbs but thats what I'm allowed.

iceman71962 2011-08-08 12:48:13 -0500 Report

that sounds like a well balanced diet but i need to see my dietician to figure out what works for me. Right now i am limited to 20 because of the back surgery i am haveing on the 31 and they want my sugar level low for healing purposes.

jayabee52 2011-08-06 16:11:27 -0500 Report

Talk to your Dr and have Doc refer you to a registered diabetic dietician who can help you figure out your allotment of carbs per meal.

iceman71962 2011-08-06 16:13:15 -0500 Report

I will do that thanks for your response,I have been keeping carbs to about 20 and that seems to be working for now.

Yes the dietian I see says I should have between 120 gram (6 units if carbs) and 150 grams (8 units of carbs) per day.
