Going over the list of things I packed...

I'm going away today for 10 days and I've made a list of everything I packed so I could go through my suitcase and make sure I have everything… Well, I have one huge suitcase full of clothes, but the thing that amazes me the most is my "medicine bag." I have an entire Vera Bradley tote filled with just my medication. I was never a heavy packer, I could stuff everything into a small suitcase or duffel and be on my way, now I have to take an entirely separate bag just for my diabetes supplies.

It's moments like this when I truly remember that my life wasn't always this complicated… I didn't have to make sure I had enough insulin or needles or glucose tabs.. I didn't have to pack bottles of vitamins and acid reflux pills. And I certainly never had to pack my own bag of food to take on a trip.

I'm so happy to be here and to be able to actually go away for the week.. And I still believe diabetes saved my life, but that doesn't stop me from looking at all this and realizing how different I am from everyone I know.

I just read this on another forum this morning which could be a problem for those that are going to fly somewhere…It would be worth calling ahead if you plan to fly.

Security Screener At DIA Tells Woman Insulin Vial Was An Explosives Risk and*confiscated them…

almost like packing for a baby. Remember everything you had to take for them..it is almost the same, except it is for you. Have a fun trip

I love reading your post, thinking of my trip to Portland last year for my daughter's wedding. I contacted the airport security via email (all I can remember are 2 of the initials, T & S) and they were actually very helpful, including letting me know that I could carry on as many unopened bottles of water as I would need for the flight. Upon a specific question, I was given the answer that I could bring 1 bottle for each hour that I was expecting to be traveling. Example: 3 hour flight, 2 hour layover, 4 hour flight meant I could carry up to 9 bottles of water with me.
Safe travel and good trip to you. Jim

That good to know. We fly alot and now that I have read your post, I will be more comfortable. Did you need a letter or any other documentation from your doctor for TSA?

Luckily, we're only driving to Maine, so I didn't have to worry about carry on luggage and the hassle of an airport. Thank you!

The guy that does backhoe work for me in our sub-division is heading back to Maine for 2 weeks starting tomorrow. Has to be cooler there!
