I was started on Metformin, and moved from met to NPH insulin about 10 years after Dx'd due to kidney shutdown from Kidney infection (due to Met?). But now I am controlling my condition without meds, by controlling what I eat & drink.

Really the question is not what works well for us, but what works for YOU —- Rory Norman. You might ask the Dr / diabetes care team if you can change to something else either an oral med, or an injectable like victoza or byetta or even insulin. As we are all different, it may take some time to find what works for YOU with the fewest amount of side effects.

And I would also encourage you to get serious about the number of carbs you take in on a daily basis. It wasn't until I got really serious about consuming a low carb menu that I got my numbers under better control.
