I dropped a huge piece of iron on my foot today (ok not my best day yet, but hey I'm working on it). It is not bad enough to go see a doctor I think, and I know its not broken, but I'm worried about the healing of it. I think I just broke some blood vessels and bruised it pretty bad, for it is somewhat swollen.

What I'm wondering is does anyone know anything that I should be doing to it to help it heal faster?

Any and all ideas welcome please!!

Vicki

I would ice it, and elevate it..I would check with the doctor also…My son is always hurting his ankle from skateboarding…So we deal with this alot…Ibuphrophine for swelling and pain…Hope this helps…Be careful…

Thank you all…I went to the doctor yesterday…my hubby bodily picked me up and put me in the car…what a sweet man…LOL

The doctor said that nothing is broken (2 x-rays) and to just take it easy. As of today I don't feel much at all.

I do now have an appointment with a pediatrist because my doctor did find more nuropathy (sp?) than we thought. So it's off to New Orleans for me…uuuhhhggggg…LOL

Good that nothing is broken. Bad on the neuropathy. How far do you travel for your doctor? You make is sound like a big trip.

New Orleans is about 40 minute drive, but I just hate going into the city…I am a country girl thru and thru…toooooooo many people in New Orleans…I have lived here for almost 4 years and have been to New Orleans 4 times…once from the airport when I got back after Katrina, one to the train station, once to bourbon street(everyone has to experience that…but bring a nose plug) and once to the aquarium for my lil ones birthday. I guess I'll be going more and more now…oh well, my health is worth it.

Oh, I see. I am adaptable, I like living in both places, but the country is much more my speed too. That is why I live where I do. If it were not for my husband's wheelchair, I'd be in a log cabin out in the Rocy Mountains somewhere.

Yes…me too. I am originally from the Black Hills of South Dakota…Give me pine trees and 8 feet of snow and I'm in Heaven…My hubby is originally from San Diego…so he is a city boy to the hilt…but I have a hard time dealing with stupid people…and it seems to me that bigger cities seem to have more than their fair share of them…LOL

Well, it does sound as if you should at least check it out with the doctor. If the bruise is bothering you, then get some of that spider vein cream. It works wonders on the quick healing of them.

Anything dealing with your feet you should take a trip to the doctor. Until you can get there always remember this rule
R-rest
I-ice
C-compression
E-elevation
This is important in the first 24 hours. So get off your foot, get it iced and elevated.
Never use heat the frist 24 hours. Ice cannot harm, heat can.

After that, I suggest steel toed shoes. LOL

Fuzzy slippers are sacred, but not very helpful against iron...were they bunny slippers? LOL. My step daughter has a pair of slippers that are like big foot with claws and every thing. I laugh when she wares them. They are just too funny.

V, I'm so sorry you had such a bad day. and OUCH! I would go see the doctor. I broke a bone on the side of my right foot in June just before I went on 2 vacations. I stepped outside our house and my foot slid off the wet hose. I though I just pulled a muscle so I just iced it and spent a weeks vaction with my mother in law and then a family reunion on my side of the family at Disneyworld the week right after she left. I was in so much pain. No idea there was a broken bone. I was so miserable my whole vacation. SOme of my family thought I was making a big deal out of nothing and just being lazy cause I didn't want to go anywhere. I did go to 2 of the parts and it was a nightmare. So anyways, when I got back I had a appointment with my doc the next day for my diabetes and I mentioned my foot. He did 3 x-rays and low and behold a small broken bone was found. I only wish I went sooner I could have had some painkillers while at disney. Point being, please go see your doctor it may be worse than you think. Let me know what you decide to do. Get better soon.
Hugs
