I know this is silly but I only have to test twice a day: fasting and after dinner.I need to save my poor fingers. Would I be best to use the same finger for the two daily tests (saving finger for 9 days) or do I need to use a different finger for each test. I am afraid of callouses.

So, I thought I'd jump in with having read that one's blood sugar readings can differ from hand-to-hand; so I tried it. Ii was true, then, I have tested in only one hand but three-fingers and occasionally the thumb.

I miight be a little late in the connvo. but I test 6x a day and i'm an ambi. so I use one hand one week and the other hand the next week .Also try the new One Touch Ultra Mini with the Delica lancing device. It's awsome!!!!!!!.I had the finger prickers that they have in the hospital, omg my fingers felt like they were on fire, but now what a relief and NO callouses what so ever.

I tend to use the same two fingers. My left thumb and index fingers. I have developed a tiny calous on my thumb which keeps it from hurting quite so bad when I stick myself.

My fingers got so sore that I actually quit testing for an entire year. I could only test on my left hand because it would bleed but only after squeezing, sometimes leaving a bruise. When it got to testing on alternate sites I use my left forearm which I find wonderful, no more pain.

If you use the same finger, over time you most likely will get calluses. I have found that the more I spread out over my fingers, the smaller my calluses are. Whatever you do just take care of your hands.

I test 6 times per day and I do the same finger for the entire day. Monday-right pinkey. Tuesday-right ring finger. Wednesday-right middle finger. Thursday-right index finger. Friday-right thumb. Saturday-left ring finger. Sunday-right pinkey. Im left handed so I prefer mostly using my right hand.

I am also left handed, so I tend to poke my fingers on my right hand, but try to remember to use my right hand at times so it will even out. I have to say Cookie Roma has a real system there! Reminds me of the old movie "If this is Tuesday, it must be Belgium"! (If it's Tuesday, it must be right ring finger!) Good system!

Lol!! I just have too much going on. In the beginning I'd gi to test and I'd try to remember what finger I last poked. It used to drive ne buts. For me I've found that using one finger all day (testing 5 to 7 times in that finger per day) then not coming back to it for a week works really well. I've been doing this for a couple of years and don't have any problems with my fingers. We just all have to do what works for ys.

That is true. I agree with you, having to test your blood so many times a day, you do need a good system. My mom tests that many times a day, also, so I will recommend doing it that way. The only problem is, she is getting to the point of not even remembering which day of the week it is…lol…always something.. :)

Lol. Yeah you have ti remember what day it is. Oh something else! In the beginning I had the lancet set-to high thinking I wouldn't otherwise get the needed blood. I came to realize that u didn't need it set that High. since I set it much lower. I still get the needed blood and much less ware on my fingers.

Yes, that is a good tip. Sometimes I set mine too high, also, and end up with sore fingertips. But sometimes it is too low and I hardly get any blood at all, so it is all about finding the happy medium! Right now, my lancet holder's spring broke so it doesn't work at all and I have to order a new one. Have been busy with other things and haven't tested for almost 2 weeks now, will have to remember to order it tomorrow. I did use my mom's tonight, and thank goodness it read about the same as it usually does at that time. Have a good week!!
