I may have a silly question. What makes "diet" green tea diet? I've done a little research but I can not find an answer. Does any one here know?

Thank you.

I think because I don't put anything into my tea that should mean all tea should be "diet" tea!

Tea leaves are naturally unsweetened; bottled tea will usually have sugar or an artificial sweetener (diet version).

Lipton sells a bottled diet iced green tea and a regular iced green tea. The regular has sugar and the diet has a sugar substitute, but I don't remember which one. The Lipton green tea in tea bags have no sugar or sugar substitute.
