In a new article I just read in a pharmacy journal they now have confirmed that lower levels of Vitamin D are associated with a higher risk of developing diabetes and diabetic retinopathy. The mechanism by which vit D may affetc progression, beta cell function, dysglycemia and retinopathy are not clear. They say the next step should be vit D supplementation trials. If anyone is interested in reading the entire article it can be found in "FormularyJournal.com".
