This bread put me in control of my diabetes and that is why I push it so much. For 16 years I would test my blood at 9:00 and it would be between 200 and 400.

After switching to this recipe, my blood sugars at 9:00 were always below 150.

I have a favorite Mexican Restaurant and I eat a burrito there, I take 7 units for this burrito, but still my blood sugars could be above 400 at 9:00.

I'm new here- i can't find your rye bread recipe! I just discovered rye doesn't spike my sugar… so I hauled out my old breadmaker… but need to choose best recipe. Would you repost please?

Yea, I do have to continue to use the finger sticks. It says do not depend on the Dexcom CGM to determine your insulin dose.
And I have to input 3 or 4 finger sticks to calibrate it.
I have noticed that the Dexcom meter is about 20 to 30 points lower than the finger stick results.
All my meters are Onetouch.
The graphs on the computer and receiver are a wonderful picture of where my blood sugar is.

if your sugar reads that high ,then you need to see dr about long term insulin,{lantus, levermere]i have been diabetic {insulin dependant} for 6 years and i have never been over 242 using lantus 60 units before bedtime.

You kind of missed the point, my blood sugar is stabilized with eating the fresh ground whole wheat and Rye. I am type 2 so there is still an emphasis on getting your blood sugar under control with diet.
The need to artificially correct it only comes into play when I eat factory built foods.

I take 18 units of Lantus at bedtime.

maybee you just need a little more !,and you will be were you need to be in morning

My doctor did just increase my Lantus by 50% but he went on vacation and so did I. So I have not seen him in 4.5 months.
I see him Tuesday, but will be starting the insulin pump next week, so I will be off Lantus all together.
I will be using Humalog exclusively.
I am on the continuous glucose monitor, so I can correct high blood sugars as I am notified.

i take 60 and i am always around 100 in morning ! you really need to talk to your doctor, tho !

My morning blood sugars are fine. Usually 100 to 120.
My night times are always good except when I stray to flour tortillas, or I go to a wedding reception and eat at will.
My night times on Friday nights really show me the value of my bread.

we all have to stray at special occaSIONS BUT i always take extra humalogue and have never had a real problem !

what are your bedtime readings? if they are in good range you obviously need more lantus !

Richknowbody 2011-07-30 13:27:51 -0500 Report

I take my wife to a restaurant on Friday's. This is when I get the bad spikes. The other six days I am fine.
I start the Animas pump next week.

ah hah, dinner !! Adjust insulin slightly higher and you should be fine. only a cople of units more.check with your doctor also

Can't wait for the pump. I hate it when I miss calculate my dosage and my blood sugar is not that high, but I want to bring it down. I know I need one or two units, but don't want to waste the shot on 2 units. I think the bump will do 0.02 units at a time.
60 units that sure seems like a lot. Wouldn't it be better to take 30 units 12 hours apart?
Sounds like you have it undercontrol

Richknowbody 2011-07-31 14:42:51 -0500 Report

That is great that it is so simple for you. I did see that increasing my Lantus meant I didn't always need a humolog shot.
I agree with the "if it ain't broke don't fix it law"
