Hi everyone. I am new on here but wanted to share my experience. I was told back in April I was diabetic. My A1C was 7.2. Doc told me to try to get it down with my diet. If my reading goes down, great, if not he would have to put me on meds. I just got my 3 month check up and I am now at 6.2 and have lost 26 lbs. I have to say I admire everyone here as I understand your struggle. You are all am inspiration!

My goal and experement was to try to control my BG levels in the "normal" range without meds, only with my meal plan of low carb high protein foods.

I started it in Jan 2011 and by May I had a A1c of 5.5 and kept my numbers in the normal range for the most part. I also lost about 40+ lbs,

My eating plan is restrictive, and I would not recommend it for everyone, but my pancreas does put out enough insulin to control what I eat. Losing the weight helps me overcome the insulin resistance, so my own insulin goes further.

I also have the added benefit of my pain from my "burning" neuropathy seeming to ease now that I have had mostly normal BGs for 6 or 7 mos.

Unless something changes with my body, I plan to stick with this plan for the rest of my life.

I watch my portions and carbs. There is a program call lose it that I use to track what I eat and you came break down the nutrients. Www.loseit.com. I have an app on my phone too. It really helps to keep a log of what you eat. Now I just need to get my lazy but up and exercise! :)
