It's an everday struggle but I have to keep doing it…It is not easy when you have to this day after day…We gotta stay committed to staying on top of it.

I've been on the Diabetes Roller Coaster with BG highs and lows for 18 months now. I had been coping with my type 1 diabetes for 35 years with MDI (multiple daily injections) which were working quite well until about 18 mos ago. With the help of an endocrinologist, I've reduced but not eliminated the severe low BG's…last one was 2 weeks ago with a reading of 28, a shot of glucagon and a trip to the ER. I've finally ordered a Medtronics insulin pump and hope to regain more even control… It should arrive today and , after initial training, I can't wait to begin using it!…although, I'm concerned about comfortably sleeping with it. A new chapter in the Great Diabetes Adventure!

I am a lifetime member of Weight Watchers and I am thankful for the training it gave me. With diabetes I have to choose fewer carbs than WW offers, but it still works for me. I have learned portion control by sight now. The American Diabetes Asso.has good diet advice too. Best of luck to you and forgive yourself for occasional slipups. Just get back up in the diet saddle and go for it.

I agree, no carb/low carb is very hard to maintain but it does work…both for lowering your BG and losing weight! You develop ingenious ways for substituting the carbs in some of your favorite foods…when I serve my husband the spaghetti he loves, instead of pasta on my plate, I put the sauce over french-style green beans. When I make him lasagna, I make a smaller pan for me and substitute cooked cabbage leaves for the lasagna noodles. That way, I still get the flavor of the dish without the added pasta carbs.

It is very hard to stick to when others in the home with you are not diabetic and bring in the things you are not to have and it is so hard when it is there and no matter how srtong you are you will slip if It is staring you in the face .the best thing for me was the atkins diet but hard to stick to also i ;lost 36 lbs on it got side stepped and gained back 20 of it so now i am ding the paleo diet and i like it very much when i finish losing the weight i will put up before and after pictures .Alot of people ar so hung up on low fat the body needs fat. well i feel you i been there but now i am strong skined i want to get healthy and off the five shots a day.but the doctors won't tell you the weight won't come off till the blood sugar is down then the weight will start to fallloff.I will keep you in my prayers that you will have the strength to eat right .
