The medical profession today is often labeled uncaring and money-grubbing. A recent experience proves otherwise. On June 25, while on vacation, 1500 miles away from home, I received results of a biopsy done on June 17. I had a melanoma in situ and my Florida dermatologist insisted I could not wait until the end of July, when we returned, to have it removed. They suggested that I find a local dermatologist to have it done or return to Florida. My Florida dermatologist would fax the pathology results to them, if I could get an appointment. I called two dermatology practices in the Portland Maine area. One of the doctors at Dermatology Associates, Robert MacNeal, in Biddeford/Portland, arranged to come in an hour before normal opening to do my surgery. So, at 7 am on July 7, he, his assistant, Donna, and the receptionist, opened the office for me and performed the procedure. Subsequent biopsy showed no trace of the melanoma remained. His willingness to create an appointment for me saved my vacation and, perhaps my life! There really are some WONDERFUL doctors out there and I was lucky enough to come across Dr MacNeal.

There really are some wonderful doctors out there. My stepmother goes to a chiropractor like that. She stopped taking insurance because the insurance company was telling her how to treat her patients. So now, for payment she takes what ever you can afford. She is just down the street from where my husband and I live now and her lot is always full!

There are many outstanding and caring doctors. I have worked with many over the
years. Men and women willing to go beyond what is called medical practice to help
Yes I think the edible arrangement would be a great thank you.

Thank you for your comment! I want to acknowledge Dr. MacNeal's willingness to go out of his way to help me, someone who will most likely never see him again! Maybe I'll send the practice an edible arrangement just to signify my appreciation. What do you think? Any other ideas?

I think this is a wonderful idea…you know, unless we acknowledge someone's kindness, we will never get to know the good feeling the Dr/staff will get when they see this gift from you. I KNOW, it will make their day!! Keep me posted…

I just ordered an edible arrangement for Dermatology Associates' Biddeford office. It will be handled by Edible Arrangements' South Portland store. Guess what, they called me after calling Dermatology Associates to get their business hours and discovered that Dr MacNeal was on vacation this week. They asked me if it was OK to postpone delivery until he got back next week. Now wasn't that a nice gesture too! I just love Maine!
