The medical profession today is often labeled uncaring and money-grubbing. A recent experience proves otherwise. On June 25, while on vacation, 1500 miles away from home, I received results of a biopsy done on June 17. I had a melanoma in situ and my Florida dermatologist insisted I could not wait until the end of July, when we returned, to have it removed. They suggested that I find a local dermatologist to have it done or return to Florida. My Florida dermatologist would fax the pathology results to them, if I could get an appointment. I called two dermatology practices in the Portland Maine area. One of the doctors at Dermatology Associates, Robert MacNeal, in Biddeford/Portland, arranged to come in an hour before normal opening to do my surgery. So, at 7 am on July 7, he, his assistant, Donna, and the receptionist, opened the office for me and performed the procedure. Subsequent biopsy showed no trace of the melanoma remained. His willingness to create an appointment for me saved my vacation and, perhaps my life! There really are some WONDERFUL doctors out there and I was lucky enough to come across Dr MacNeal.
