I am newly diagnosed and seem to have problems managing my blood sugar. It may be 110 one day and then climb up to 250. Why is this so hard to manage?

A couple of questions for you Paco

1. What is your plan of care for managing your diabetes? are you using an oral medication, an injectable med? Insulin? or you trying to control your BG numbers with your eating plan and exercise.

2. How often do you test your Blood Glucose? At what times?

To get the answers you seek, please answer the questions asked above so we have some information to work with. Otherwise we are simply making guesses like shots in the dark.

You need to understand what your body does with what you eat and the best way to do that is to test frequently and log what you eat and what your BG does with that food. Another thing that can cause you to move up and down is your activity level, as the more you exercise the better your body deals with carbs… up to a point. If you over exert, your body can feel deprived of energy and dump sugar into the blood to compensate, driving your BG up. The more you know your own body the better you can manage this disease. Trust your meter!
