We all have them. Something that you love to eat and you know it may not be the best in the world for you, but you just have to have it on occasion. What is your guilty food pleasure?
Mine is chips dipped in soft I Can't Believen It's Butter Lite. There I said it!! lol

C.H.O.C.O.L.A.T.E! Anything chocolate. I dedicate a large part of my life in search of chocolate recipes I can get away with. I have mastered chocolate cheesecake, brownies, chocolate yogurt, hot chocolate. Working on a sugar free fudge and ice cream (or frozen yogurt). I have to be careful because I cannot tolerate artificial sweeteners. I have to stick with Stevia.

Coca-Cola, with real sugar in it. The kind that is now only made in Mexico, and exported to the U.S. A cruel irony!

Since my husband was also diagnosed as a diabetic and he is a chocolate lover, so if he eats goo, then he get a half of almond joy. That seems to satisfy his craving.

I love Chinese food. Unfortunitely, my BS numbers sky rocket after I eat it. So I don't eat very much, very often.

This is mine also. I love lo-mein. Dang noodles! I try to stick to beef and broccoli and eat it plain, but there is just nothing like a side of pork fried lo-mein.

AuntieM234
AuntieM234 2011-07-29 04:12:01 -0500 Report

Well Gabby, I love the beef and broccoli, but I don't need the lo-mein. I guess my favorite Chinese is Kung Pao Chicken, extra spicey, served over pork fried rice.

I did fall off the wagon while on vacation in Maine. We went to a buffet (I hate buffets!) that had fried whole clams. (I'm not even tempted by the fried clam strips which taste like fried rubber bands to me!). I hadn't put any on my plate because I know anything deep-fried a no-no but my husband gave me one of his…one was all it took! I love whole fried clams…I think I went back twice for them. Well, my BG soared to 300+ after that indulgence. I wish I had simply stuck to the steamers and mussels and stayed away from the fried whatever! Sometimes the will-power takes a vacation. I resolve never to eat fried clams again!

Okay. I hope this doesn't cut me off. Hershey bar with or without nuts, reeses PB cup, pizza, especially Freshetta's, bread…never met a loaf I didn't like. Ice Cream…do I have to list all the flavors? Sweet tea, southern style. Milk shakes, cheesecakes (hold the toppings), BBQ ribs, baked potato, with butter. German chocolate Ice Cream…chocolate combined with coconut. Chocolate _________ (you can fill in the blank). The meatballs they are serving tonight that are cooked in a combination of Cranberry sauce and BBQ sauce. Gotta go…staff eats early LOL

Yeah, I do pretty well with those. what screws me up med wise is change. I was on Lantus at night. Injection success rate 95%. Now I am on Humilin (? sp) 50 in am, 30 in pm. Injection success rate 85%. Now my Metformin has been changed to noon. success rate for taking it on time 10%. success rate for taking it once a day, 25%. It takes time for me to change habits. I want to see if I can find an alarm that I can use. My cell phone would have to be set everyday. I want sometime that will remind me to test throughout the day and take that Noon med. My AM & PM meds are not a problem as they are in a pill box on the table.

Wow I have a lot lol. Ice Cream/milkshakes, reeses cups, pizza, cheesecake & key lime pie, fettucine alfredo, lasagna. Ive had none of those since I was diagnosed 6 weeks ago until today…I had to have a key lime pie milkshake mmmm. 2 hours after I had it I was at 220 and 2 hours after that I was back down to 120 so I survived it.

Ribs. I may be new at this diabetes thing, but I will find a way to work ribs so that they are Type 2 friendly and memorable. That is my mission, and I choose to accept it.

Your search for Diabetes friendly ribs might take you through the DC recipes section where I understand resides an elusive recipe for Diabetic friendly BBQ sauce. This message will self destruct . . . . .

I second Lou's response. I had been on insulin and on oral antiglycemics before that. It is pretty well ingrained in who I am and what I do.

Chinese and Mexican food, so wrong on so many levels at least for what I like to eat, but I will have one or the other every few months. My day to day vice is chocolate, but the dark chocolate is low enough in carbs that it does not break the blood sugar bank. I am intolerant of sugar alcohols so anything with sorbitol, malitol, etc I cannot eat so I have to have sparse amounts of 'real' products unless I bake for myself with splenda or nutrasweet.

I indulge in a square of good quality dark chocolate covered with a spoonfull of natural peanut butter…YUMMMY…tastes better than Reese's PB cups and lower carb too!

NY style cheesecake! OMG that gets me into trouble LOL. The runner up is pizza. I can eat pizza forever! Especially if the crust is filled with cheese :-). I know…Bad girl! :-).

Love & Blessings to all,

The cheesecake is actually a lower-carb alternative to other desserts as long as it's not covered with syrupy sweet fruit topping…especially if it's made with Splenda or another sugar substitute. And, this DC Recipe site has a recipe for zucchini pizza crust that gets rid of a lot of the carbs in pizza…we do have some healthier alternatives!

As a teenager, I ate Twinkies for dinner. Now they make me gag…you may find that, over the years, your taste buds have evolved. I thank heaven I no longer even want to see a Twinkie!
