I dont know what to do with all my needles, I did what my doctor told me to do and that was put them in a sharps container and make sure my garbage company knows that they are going to be in there, well everytime i try to do that they wont pick up my trash, so if i cant throw them away what do i do with them? Is there a place i can bring them to?

I put them in a container and duck tape the container and drop them in my trash. No need for anyone to know that they are in there.

In my area we can call the local garbage collection company buy sharp containers and then return them when they are full and purchase another container. We can also put them in a puncture resistant container that is red and take it to the local land fill or dump.

I bought a sharps disposal container that includes the pre-paid mail return packaging. http://www.bd.com/us/diabetes/page.aspx?cat=7... ) It is kind of expensive though, but I got a good deal by buying it on sale and applying a store coupon and then using my bonus points for my loyalty card. By doing that I got it for about $12.50 - down from about $29. It will last me a while since I no longer take insulin injections so all I am putting in there now are used lancets.

You might try a local hospital and check if they have a needle redemption program.
One hospital in my county accepts needle disposal ( red containers ) one day per
week at a special location. If you don't have a program such as this check with the
red cross or your pharmacy. Where I live its a major fine if you place needles out
for pick up by the recycling company. They have to pay a fee if they pick them up and you will be billed for each container for the service.

I use the Solostar Pen so I just use the tips that have the needle on it. I've just been putting them in the trash.

I don't think that is a good idea. If a garbage worker gets stuck by one and they find out that it is yours, they might be able to sue you or charge you with a crime if there is a law against that. Would hate for anything badder than diabetes should happen to any person with diabetes as a result of trying to control it,

Drop your sharp containers off at your doctors office, they have to dispose of sharps and your containers if sealed right will be dropped with their sharps. I don't have a problem with them. My VA clinic has a reminder posted at desk about sharps and ask that you bring them in at your next visit. Just be sure the container is thick plastic( like a bleach bottle) and sealed. No one wants to get stuck with a dirty needle.

Howdy Joy, WELCOME to DC!

To answer your question, one has to know what state, county and/or city you're living in. I lived in California for a while and the sharps disposal regulations and procedures varied from county and city to city. In Nevada there are different laws.

The best suggestion I would have is to Google the term "sharps disposal" and the name of your city, or county and your state. You should get a list of websites which would tell you how the disposal of sharps is accomplished in your locality.

I pray you have success in finding a way to dispose of your used sharps.

James

Contact your garbage company. They probably have a disposal procedure. Or some pharmacies will dispose of the sharps container for you.

Check with some of your local pharmacies to see if they will take your sharps container. I'm sure your community has other resources that you can access.
