Hey Guys, I eat right, exercise, and take my meds. I need to lower my A1C quickly, cause there's some elective surgery that I want. Any suggestions? I'm open to all.

Try some nuts for your protein too. If you are having tofu as your main source of protein then you are having some carbs. All vegetables have carbs. It's just a matter of choosing the right ones that won't raise your blood sugars. Nuts are a great source of protein, fiber and some of them are loaded with the good omega oils too. Good luck with your battle to lower your A1c.

Veggies that have carbs would be the starchy kind like peas, corn, of course potatoes. I eat a lot of broccoli, green beans, zucchini, even half of a sweet potato, to add variety. I think the diabetic diet is a lot like the old Adkins diet, which I used to do to lose weight. High protien, low carb. For a treat, I have sugar free jello with whipped cream on top, almost no carbs at all and satisfies my sweet cravings. I have eggs for breakfast, several mornings a week, but don't want to overdo them, so I do have cereal once or twice a week, usually Special K with strawberries or plain cheerios, with low fat milk.

The old Atkins diet is the best one to control blood glucose…but I don't recall it including "Cotton Candy"…:>)

I hope you can, good luck to you. I wonder, how can anyone hardly eat any carbs? almost everything in the world has carbs. For those on very very low carb diets, what in the world do you eat?

Salads with lots of veggies, nuts, meats, fish, eggs, and cheese…also natural peanut butter (5g of carb/2 tbsp) I avoid most breads, cereals, pasta, potatoes, high-carb snacks and desserts. When I make my husband spaghetti, his sauce goes on pasta but I put my sauce on top of french-style green beans…same stringy look but lots less carbs!
Also, most berries work in a low-carb diet…wonderful with splenda-sweetened cream… and I like to have an apple with natural PB for lunch..but I need to stay away from mangos, grapes, citrus, and pineapple. Also tried a zucchini crust pizza (look in DC recipe section). It's not an easy diet but it does work!

Mainly eggs, meat, and veggies, and low glycemic index fruits.

For breakfast 2 hard boiled, and a small piece of fruit. Lunch is usually a grillled boneless/skinless chicken breast and a veggie of choice (avoiding those with high glycemic values), and some kind of treat. Evening meal is grilled hamburger patty (85/15% or better). and a veggie. and a berry fruit.

I've lost 40 lbs in 5 months and have kept my BG numbers close to "normal" without use of diabetes meds for that period too. I do not think that I have cured my diabetes. I control it, and will need to do so for the remainder of my life. I think the burning neuropathy from knees to toes seem to be lessening in severity, although not gone yet. i'll really be happy when that finally is a thing of the past.

Too bad I can't undo the damage done to my kidneys. I'll need dialysis again soon.

might be some hope there. I am in the learning phase of my supplement,,it has some limitations, but then it does so much. How often do you do dialysis? I have found any thing at the weight I am at to get my high blood pressure number down. But, it is in the same range when I was 20 years younger and 100 pounds lighter and could break 60 sec in a quarter and 6 flat in a mile. My sister died and I was the one that tried to raise them for three years. I am going to get a website to put on my video. When I was 40, I had a sub 40 pulse rate. During my surgery recovery in the ICU my report told all the staff not to get alarm when the warning signal that my resting pulse break 50. Kidney are tough to bring back. Google Ganderma Lucidum and kidney repair. Well, going down, a small serving of icecream (cheat a little). Basically four years ago I cut out sugar, sugar sodas, candy and sweets. Bread isn't friendly to me either. There is another extract I will have to do some research on. People do not know how bad hypertension and diabetes can present havoc on the body. I had califolwer and my glucose was 156.

I had been on dialysis about 6 yrs ago and at that time it was 3 days/wk 4 hrs/day. Haven't yet started back on dialysis. Probably in another month.

I had briefly researched Ganderma Lucidum a month or 2 ago. I dismissed it as someone over selling a product on a MLM/NM site. There is just no way that one product can heal the number of diseases and conditions they said it could. Those MLMers will say most anything to try to get a sale (I used to be a MLMer). I pray you are not one of those people, Lewis.

jayabee52, just my point, not all MLM so I am working a way to deal with that, that herb is powerful, it goes after so many illness, I healed my leg with it, don't make the mistake because a group of people are making money off it. My 68 old sister was over here my house, she had a fast food meal one hour before, I gave her a mix of the various strength that I use, in two hour her sugar dropped from 166, 160, 125 and then to 86. I was worried it would go to low so I gave her a sweet. Now in your case, would you want gamble and be wrong. At the time I went to surgery I was not taking a daily regiment, but it has held my sugar in place. Laughing, the stuff has a patent on it to treat Parkinson, I never had steady hands, I never had the power over my motor skills, the pen tilting and the goose bumps is not a trick. It is a shame that some make a fortune but look at the medical people, my insurance premium went up 1200 percent since 2001. Jayabee, I have given my supplies away but people want every thing for nothing. I use thos immune pills for CNCA and I comsumed 6 gallon of oxgenated water 500 part gallon, normal tap is about 7. I have a friend at the YMCA spend $20,000 to put the equipment together. You have a meter, try some samples, track your sugar and then you make and deciide what your opinion. I feel sorry for diabetics walking around with those +200 reading, my feet are still telling about the little time my sugar was roaming up there. My dad neice in Orange Texas lost her daughter from cancer, the mom was very diabetic (300), now her church is giving them products. Those meter readings of mine have the date and time. I will close with this, I have given more away and have not maked any money. I pray for me, I pray for the masses, and I pray for you. Personally, I give more than I take.

jayabee52, you called me out, I had that famous Blue Bell icre cream and the cartoon said SUGAR ADDED, it was around mid-night, prior to that I was eating late and my meter read 152 at 9.58, I took a small dose of my regiment and took a meter reading of 135 2:32 a.m. I was expecting the reading to be lower (it has sugar added) I wake up at 4 a.m. and read your post and you say "I pray you are not one of those people, Lewis". So beiing a retired Senior Design Engineer for one the biggest defense co. for 20 years out of 36 years with out a degree, I know how to collect data. The meter says 109 at 4:47 a.m. and 114 at 4:54 a.m. and I took pictures with the national clock on my computer screen. I took a stiffer dose of my regiment and now I am up and at 7:29 a.m. the meter says 94 and another reading at 7:45 a.m. the meter says 97(some one called me). Now I am going to down load the pictures, and then I will not post any more. Now I could post a Design Review for the Space Shuttle dated 26 March 1976 where the math model I did was named after me "The Wright Model", I found a flaw in the design by Sunstrand Aviation. Now, I am working on a presentation to help people. I have spoke the America Diabetes and they do not have any money. Now my company did not think I am a fraud, it just shows you people finds something and make money on it and yet you just can not help people. I pray for your kidneys, this "natural medicine" is the most powerful thing I have felt since 1948 when antibotics saved my left arm. GOOD LUCK!!

Hey guys I do avoid all types of carbs, will not eat sh** like pizza & pasta, but will start consuming more tofu like there's no tomorrow (my only form of protein) but I know that potatoes have a lot of carbs, does anyone know what other type of veggies contain a lot of carbs? I want this surgery. And if Sir Harlan is correct, and it does take 90 days to lower it, then I guess it can't be any faster than that.

jayabee52
jayabee52 2011-07-22 22:55:09 -0300 Report

the 90 days is a moving average so every day you keep your BG numbers down it changes the average just a little bit. You possibly could get your A1c down to the desired number within a month depending on how far you need to lower it.

2011-07-26 01:12:02 -0300 Report

Faster than fast. But than again jayabee I needed to be lowered by yesterday @ noon. Lol

2011-07-26 01:30:54 -0300 Report

I'm desperate 4 this surgery, and it's considered an elective surgery. And the only way that my HMO will do the surgery is if I bring my A1c down to a 5.0.

2011-07-22 21:55:45 -0300 Report

Well guys, I do avoid all carbs. As well as all fruits. I will have to figure out what type of veggies have the most carbs. I know that potatoes do, but what other type of veggies? ( Any help?) I ABSOLUTELY WILL NOT touch any type of pizza,or pasta of any type. But if Sir Harlan is correct & it does take 3 mos 4 the A1C 2B lowered, I guess it can't be any quicker than that. Thanks Guys!! Any more ideas, will also be extremely helpful.

I probably sound like a broken record. Eat low carb, high protein foods with low glycemic index veggies. (But don't drink the water, or Montezuma will get his revenge. LoL!)

Great diet…I've been doing the same thing roughly for many years and my A1c has been in the 6's. After 46 years of Type 1, no major complications. The only additional thing I eat lots of is cheese. Has vitamin K2 that blends with the D I take to help minimize hardening of the arteries. Everyone should take your post to heart…

I have experimented with controlling my BG levels without meds. by eating a low carb, high protein menu with a lot of low glycemic Veggies and only a few fruits.
I have had good success with this menu overall. I have also lowered my A1c from 6.7 to 5.5 in 3 months. Plus, I lost about 3 inches at my waistline. My recommendation is a very low carb, high protein menu

2011-07-25 23:15:06 -0500 Report

I am a little "nutty" Lol— but what type of veggies are considered "low glycemic"?

jayabee52
jayabee52 2011-07-25 23:34:36 -0500 Report

Google glycemic index. You'll get several lists of items which have high (which I avoid) medium (which I may use but sparingly) and low (which i use frequently).
These are lists of foods which were eaten by people who were then were tested for blood glucose at an hour and two hours after ingesting. You should find a fuller explanation on the methodology those sites used to determine their rankings of foods as they did. but generally speaking a high glycemic index raised the BG a lot after ingestion and low GI affected BG numbers very little if at all.

for the senior, I read that a real low AC1 was not good, many were leaving to go to heaven. I think between 6.5 and 6.0 will be my target goal. 3 weakness I have, I will eat grits before oatmeal, I love bread, and I drink quite bit of whole D milk, so I have been stuck between 303 and 316.

Jayabee you are the best!! I will try exactly what you did! If you were able to knock a couple of points off your A1C, I will do it!! I luv ya jayabee!!
