My 8 year old son was just diagnosed with T1 a week ago. I am still very confused on some of this. If he eats a fruit or has juice with his meal should I count it in his humalog that he gets with meals?

I would greatly appreciate any help.

Ditto to what Harlen said. You count all of the carbs in the meal minus either: 1)all of the fiber or 2)half of the fiber content for all foods with 5 or more grams of carbs. You have to check with your diabetes educator about which way they want you to do it. YOU can use something called a carbohydrate ratio to calculate how many carbs in a piece of fruit Here's an article about carb factors

Please call your diabetes educator if you are still confused!
