As my mom had glaucoma I have my eyes checked annually for that condition as well as for any diabetic-related changes. So far, after 10 years of the disease being part of my life, there's been no major problem. But like others posting to this site, I'm fearful of loosing my sight, so am well-motivated to keep on taking care of myself.

I have been diabetic for 47 years. I started wearing glasses the first year and have gradually progressed to trifocals. I've also had 13 laser surgeries for retinopathy. Thankfully I haven't needed that treatment for about 6 years. I've also had vitreous hemmorhage and surgery for that. So, I treasure my eyes. I see my opthalmologist for a dilated eye exam at least once a year and more if I see "floaters". Going blind has probably always been my biggest fear as a diabetic. We so need to watch our A1C and control as best we can. God Bless! Brenda

I go every year for my exam and every year my eyes have changed and need new lenses. Luckily I have insurance and it only costs me 15 dollars for new lenses. I have kept the same frames for 2 years now.

I was told I could not have laser surgery because I am diabetic and my eyes change too much. That is great for you.

I've worn glasses since I was 18 months old. I see an opthamologist once a year. Both my Mom and Grandmother had Retinal detachment so anything the lest wonky and I go see him pronto.

I have an exam 2x a year recommended by my Eye MD. With good control of my BG and 2 eye surgeries my eyes hasn't changed in the last 7 years.
