Sugar on your fingers before a blood test can affect the reading also.

I was surprised to find out that the reason to wash your hands before a test was also to get any sugar you may have on your hands washed off so it doesn't affect the blood test.
Never occurred to me.

I was told from the get-go to always wash my hands or at least make sure they are clean before testing. I don't always wash like a surgeon, as my hands can't handle it much after the 50th wash a day, but I do make sure they are clean.
