I have read a lot about diabetes and high blood pressure, but my blood pressure is dropping. Last night I didn't feel well and my arm hurt so I decided to take my blood pressure. It was 120/63. I had not felt well all day and was a bit nauseous but forced myself to eat. After eating I felt better and took my BP again. It was up to 130/75.

Is low blood sugar related to low blood pressure?

Are you taking meds? Have you been losing weight? I think you have read the advice below. Please see your doctor right away. It will be interesting hearing what you learn.

No meds yet. I have lost about 5 pound but over a couple of weeks. I am exercising more now to try to lose the extra weight I have. I tried to get in but no appointmenst available. I am on a waiting list for someone to cancel.

First talk to your Doc. I have high BP, and take meds for it. I will tell you that low BG and low BP act exactly the same. Almost two years ago I was doing a photo assignment and couldn't think straight, felt nauseous, blurred vision, dizzy, and sweating big time, finally I dropped and the EMT's were called. I said it was low BG, but taking my BP the reading was 61/35. Spent four days in hospital. Since that time if camera hangs around neck more then 30 min I blackout. Heart is fine, arteries fine, ultrasound and MRI showed nothing. Wierd, but you go check it out.

The last thing I want to do is have a stay in the hospital. a few years back before I had and BG problem, I went to the Star Trek show at the Las Vegas Hilton. Just after the Borg started attacking I went down but came back in time to continue with the presentation. After the show a woman came up and asked if they paid me to act because it sure looked real when they shot me and I fell. I wish!!! Anyway, ended up having all kinds of heart tests and blood work and nothing was found. The cardiologist told me to eat more salt to make me retain fluids. If it is going to be something weird just look at me and I am a perfect example of, "I can't explain why that happened."

You should see your doctor, that sounds scary to me. I wonder if that is what happened to me a couple of times b4 I was diagnosed. I had these spells, light headed, felt weird, looking back I knew it was a low, but a couple of times I was COLD. my neighbor said I looked pale and that was the worst time. That is a good question, and I wonder if perhaps many diabetics have low blood pressure at times, that really goes too low.

I was not supposed to go into my doc until Aug 5th but I am thinking I will call and get in sooner.

I read in the diabetes pamphlet I got from my pharmacy that they're not sure that a systolic pressure below 130 is good for diabetics. I don't know what it has to do with us, but they're considering recommending that diabetics keep their systolic between 130 and 140, and their diastolic around 80. So where would that put me, at 124 over 74? When I get upset it reads 116 over 63.

Thanks. I will check with my doctor and see what she says. It is strange to be worried about low blood pressure when my whole life I have tried to avoid high blood pressure. I passed out once in 2007 and went to a cardiologist who told me that I had to eat one salty snack each day to keep my blood pressure up. With a history of High BP in my family I still use salt sparingly. Maybe I need to start eating salted nuts.

For myself I have had low BS and High BP's. Like 69 BS and 135/110BP. It seems to me that for the most part my high BP's are more related to the stress in my life at the time (which is most of the time). I can not seem to find a happy medium with either.

I'm not sure if low blood sugar is related to low blood sugar. I've had low blood pressure that has put me in the hospital (80/59).
This was very serious for me as my body had started to shut down major organs.
I have found a article about low blood pressure and diabetes an I will post it here, so that you can see for yourself. Here is the article (please read all the way down the page) : http://www.tonehealth.org/Diabetes-and-Low-Bl...

Thanks for the link. I will definitely talk to my doctor about this, in fact I may call and see if anyone has cancelled their appointments and try to get back sooner. I don't return until August 5th and I am not doing very well at getting everything under control. My meter should arrive any day so I can start testing my BG levels. I have gotten better at exercising because I feel better after a walk than if I skip it.

have you been yet and how are you doing?

50Jewels 2011-07-17 23:43:17 -0500 Report

I got my meter finally. I tested this morning at 7:00 @ 90, then at 12:30 I was at 85, it stayed the same when I tested at 2:10 and was at 82 just now. Problem is I have not been given any guidelines so I don't know if this is really good or low.

Thanks. That must mean the diet and excercise changes must be helping. My doc will be so happy with me if that is the case.
